Great Time At Tomball!!

We sure had a great little Club Match at Tomball today, had a total of 26 shooters, including 7 in the Factory Class, and 5 in the Modified Class. This is good.

Jone Jones cooked up some great grub, the conditions were very readable,(hot as heck), and everybody went away happy. We had five 250's shot in the Benchrest Class.

The results went like this:

Fatory Class:
Steve Stwart....243 8x
Tom Lyons.......236 6x
Kieth Bee.........221 1x

Modified Class:
Art Bosco..........247 7x
Allen Hanks........2423x
Sam Price..........241 3x

Benchrest Class:
Nick Marino........250 19x
Ed Bernabeo.......250 18x
Vic Smith...........250 18x
Russel Mathews..250 18x
Dale Metzger......250 16x

As you can see, the 2d, 3d, and 4th place was determined by the tie breaker.
Nick was shooting a 6PPC, Both Ed and Vic were shooting 30PPC's.

We have one match to go, there will be a Tomball Shooter of the Year plague given to the shooter in the Benchrest Class who has the best Three out of the Four Matches. Looks like Nick Marino, who also won the June Match, has a 3x lead going into the final match.

Thanks to everybody for coming out. We had quite a few new shooters, this is one of our goals, to attract new shooters, and let them see what it is like to participate in a real Benchrest Match Format, in a more laid back and less intimidating atmosphere.........jackie

When the Board of Directors of the Tomball Gun Club appointed me the Club Match Director, they told me if I wanted to coordinate and run the matches, they would prefer I not shoot. The reason being, I would have plenty to do, and by not shooting, I could devote my efforts toward running the Match.
Since I get to do PLENTY of shooting in the Region Matches, I agreed.

I loaned Vic Smith my 30PPC this week end, and he did quite well........jackie

It would be so nice if there was a way to really award Match Directors for their service. We probably could get two or three times the ranges, at least in my area, if we just had benchrest knowledgeable people, like Jackie in this instance, willing to do that thankless job!!

I personally thanked Jackie for running ...

the match at Tomball today, and I saw others who did the same, as well as a collective thank you by all the shooters who surrounded him after the awards ceremony. Everyone at the match recognized Jackie's work and also those of his club's colleagues who made the match a success in many ways. As we used to say in the Navy ... Bravo Zulu Jackie and associates! Thanks again Jackie for a match well run. I had a great time. I will have to work on getting on the other end of the tie breakers. That's 2 matches in a row I got beat on tie the tie breaker. russell m

think about affiliating with IBS and having a registered match or two sometime in the future. It's a blast and a challenging and fun form of benchrest shooting. --greg

At this time, we are very limited on the dates we can have Club Matches. Benchrest has the first Sunday of the month. We have Two Registered Matches during the Spring, The Board of Directors told me that we cannot have the Sunday of those Months. (It is their perogative). Also, we cannot have a match on the same week end as a Registered Gulf Coast Region Match. Then, there is the months of Deer Season. Nobody can tie up the range during that.
That leaves us with the 4 dates we have. I really do not want to register these Matches because that would defeat our purpose in trying to furnish non (Benchrest) shooters with a more laid back and "hassle free" atmosphere to shoot.
Maybe in the future. But for now, we just want to have a good time, have some good competition, and try to attract new shooters.......jackie
