The barrel is glued on a br gun i just bought. I would like to have the stock re-painted..removal of stock?

first thing to try is put the gun in a freezer, if that doesnt work try putting a heat gun to the metal (dont burn the stock). one of those should help break the bond between metal and epoxy.

Excellent

I will try this....and let everyone know how it turned out...scott:d

What I've done.

For actions:

Bar of steel. heat that sucker up to where its a dull red and slide it up the but of the stock. That'll get the glue cooked so that it pops free. Use a razor along show line and you'll even save the paint sometimes.

Barrels.

I'd go after it with a hot air gun. Get a zillion jigawatt one from Milwaukee and it'll cook it pretty fast. Heat it out in space so you don't burn the stock. It work its way down.

Another option would be to get a bar of solid copper and cut it to the length of the barrel stuck in the stock. heat it up and just lay it across the barrel the full length.

Wow

It is easier than that. Just take the scope and mounts off, and get a Iron, (the one that takes wrinkles out of cloths), set it on high, and lay it on top of the action. Enough heat will conduct into the actiion to break the bond.

Get a cheap iron, one that doesn't shut off if left unattended for a minute or two........jackie

That's the way I have removed a couple glued in actions.

Automatic Irons

Jackie:

Those sound like words of experience.

Do you think Ralph Nader had anything to do with those irons?

You said that the barrel was glued in. Did you mean the action?? If the barrel is actually glued in the stock you may have to approach it differently than suggested here.

Removal of barrel?

If the action is glued into the stock as it is on nearly all benchrest rifles, it may not be necessary to remove it to have the stock painted. Check with the painter. If he holds an FFL, he can probably just mask off the action and paint the stock. The barrel can be removed without ungluing the action, assuming that the action is what is glued.

If you still must remove the action, go with Jackie's suggestion.
