glue in trigger guard

Just acquired a new-to-me rifle on a panda action. while shooting yesterday the trigger guard became loose. On examination, I found that the rear trigger guard screw passes thru the stock to a threaded hole in the action. There is a soft rubbery material covering the flat at the rear of the trigger guard inlet (i'm assuming to allow for vibration) As this is a glue-in, I'm wondering if this is standard practice. Shouldn't the trigger guard screw be attached to the stock only - rather than passing thru to a threaded hole in the action? Should I shorten the screw and epoxy a threaded insert into the stock?

Trigger Guard

I use the rear screw to attach the trigger guard on all three of my Competitin Rifles. Just enough tension to hold it secure. I also use an aluminum screw.
Of course, you can choose to overcomplicate the situation, and I am sure many will come up with great solutions to non existant problems.
But, with a little common sense, the screw does a great job.......jackie

Jackie..

Does your trigger guard screw pass completely thru the stock into the action? - Forgive me if I'm "overcomplicating" but I'm new to this

If you can snug the screw and the trigger guard not be loose....you're good to go. If it bothers you in the least, and it often does, then by all means fix it. Barring any cosmetic damage, there's no problem either way.

Just tighten the screw...

Simplicity... obviously that will work to remedy the loose trigger guard - the question was should the screw actually be into the action? (what with all the art, science and black magic involved in bedding these days).

Thanks all for the responses. I can see it's nothing to be concerned about.

multi purpose fastener

The bolt is there for two (2) reasons ...to hold the trigger guard in place untill you need to remove it to drop the trigger out of the bottom of the action....and....to retain the barreled action in the event of catastrophic bedding failure (the glue comes loose!!)....its a bolt !,,just keep it tite and enjoy shooting one of the smoothest working actions out there....there is very little black magic (maby a lil" black mammy) to constructing/bedding a Benchrest rifle...just do it right (and there are several RIGHT ways ) and keep it simple ...the magic begins when the winds of change are blowing down range.....Roger

Jeffsvice...the action is glued on a hard (bedding) surface, to tighten the guard screw will NOT affect/influence the action...If it were on an ireggular or soft surface that would be different...Think about it..
