Getting back into AR accuracy

Shooting my AR SBR I didn't worry about the bolt locking lugs engaging the chamber lugs too much.

But shooting this new benchrest AR I'm thinking about it. Esp. since shooting suppressed

Any secrets for cleaning the AR 15 chamber, esp the lugs?

Do a simple search.
They make tools just for that task.
OEM wire brush, and cotton roll tool.

Its a simple question, friends.... whattta ya recommend for cleaning an AR chamber? I fully understand the design and function of the gun, and its challenges. . I'm already at 0.70MoA and I haven't even done any load development, yet..

I have both a 6.5 Creedmoor and 338 Norma Mag bolt guns for LR accuracy. I'm looking for a different challenge.

I have found the Iosso lug/chamber brush you linked to work quite well. I used to use the old 1 part CLP to 3 parts odorless mineral spirits solution for carbon removal, but have found that a small ultrasonic with Simple Green works WAY BETTER for AR parts that I can fit in it. Just dont use Simple Green on aluminum parts!

Here's the gun....AR SPR 18" WOA bbl w/ Ops 12th Suppresor. Elftmann SS trigger. Changed the scope (picd) for a Leup 6.5 - 20 x 50

I've been starting with CLP, let it soak, blast it away with Carb Cleaner, and then coat with Hornady One-Shot cleaner / lube to prevent carbon build up. But I was needing some sort of brush. Ordered the Iosso from Midway.

Just bought a ultrasonic tub to clean the bolt, etc. We will see how that goes.

A can will shift PoI, but in my experience will sometime tighten groups. I've never seen them degrade groups. My 6.5CM with that same can (picd) shoots a repeatable 0.36 MoA.

Which is good enuf for me.

But if you zero with the can, you do pretty much need to always shoot suppressed.... cuz it moves PoI. Mostly due to changed bbl harmonics of having a paperweight hanging off the barrel. :)

If you need to get into accuracy more try CLE. my space gun will hold .3 at 100. Loaded off a modified Hornady progressive..... they flat shoot....... Jim

Yes the first one is what i referred to in my post.
They make a short handle for it.

Get the children to quit crying and have the chief cook and bottle washer put

I'd settle for ppl NOT telling me the "Ar poops where is eats" (duh) and then telling me to go to bArfcom. (gag) :)

I came here cuz ppl here are serious about accuracy.

I have a basic rule about internet gun forums - when I have nothing on point to help the OP with his actual question... I just don't post anything. :)

I'm also very interested in AR accuracy and 1/2MOA is certainly achievable without undue effort. I don't think you can approach benchrest accuracy, but you can certainly do pretty well. I've seen a few references to 'bedding' the barrel extension and have been mulling it over. Contemplating gooping up the barrel extension and turning to a very light press fit into the upper.

Yup. I've got other benchrest guns for benchrest accuracy.

This will be primarily a steel plate gun - rapid fire accuracy. Like Larry Potterfield says "Only accurate rifles are interesting."

garandman, send a PM to NezRongero on this forum. Probably as good a competition smith on ARs as you will find. Nez is a great guy and will share his knowledge.
