Gene Beggs wind probes

Hello Ian, I purchased them at a local super market, they are white and can be painted any color that you like. I prefer florescent yellow.

They are sold as "Cheers" 9 oz plastic cups, 80 to a package. They are made by

If you can't get them where you live, I could send you a few, but I suspect that the cost of shipping would be outrageous.

The cup for the large wind probe is the 9 ounce cup. I got mine from Wal-Mart. Their brand Product of Mexico. The cup is idential to the Solo Cup Company red outside white inside. It is just a plastic cup 3" OD mouth and 1 7/8" bottom x 4" tall. Glue from any hobby shop made for plastic.

Ian, nine ounce plastic cups can be found at most supermarkets and discount centers. If you cannot find the color you want, you can either paint them or use Scotchcal vinyl film available at places that make signs and graphics. Use plastic model cement to glue them together, not Super Glue.

There are several ways to make the holes in each end. One of my customers sharpens the mouth of a 308 case and punches the holes with that. The small #8 hole in the top cup can be drilled with a twist drill. It is necessary to check the balance after changing the cup assembly. There is quite a bit of variation in weight between one brand and the other and of course if you add paint or vinyl graphics, that will affect balance. Once the new cups are installed you should check the balance by first removing the damper, and taping a 130 grain weight to the top of the cup. Adjust the counterweight as necessary to balance in horizontal position.

......... I find it easier to screw in a 130 grain field tip as used on arrows. FWIW...... Jan

Gene perfectly clear, and I've even learned something about balancing them. I haven't been able to find a cup here in NZ the same as the ones you use so will pick up some while I'm in the US.......will you be at the Supershoot??.....Ian

Yes, I plan to be at the Supershoot but will not be sponsoring a flag rotation. I'll let others argue about how they want their flags set.

thing to drag around with you when you have a long distance to travel. I like your thinking. The only thing that must go with me is my probe.

Gene no arguments about how flags are set.........they all have to be upside down so that us southern hemisphere shooters can read them:D:D......Ian

Calvin, I must be doing something wrong as I'm bringing everything by plane and car including 60 windflags.........just hope everyone else brings the probes:D:D.......Ian
