Full Length Sizing

good....glad you tracked down the problem..

This is the plague of all benchrest shooters....it is a treat to shoot a gun with ammo that fits....it is difficult to get just the rite combo of chamber-brass-dies.....but when u do the gun really starts to shine and becomes a real shootin iron....I think .004 is borderline too much sizing....as others have said get a custom die and your problems will go away....A cupla yrs ago I had some resize issues with one of my rifles....some buddies called and said "lets go shoot tomorrow at a "nearby" range....I gathered up some ctgs. that were allready loaded (shulda loaded some fresh ones!!!) and got my gear redy for the next day....went and got to shootin and during one target at 1000 one of my cases split and the smoke flew in my face and just about blew my wig off....when the target got bak to me there was one about a foot low!!! and the other NINE rite at 3.00" grrrrrrrrr.......Roger

Dennis the body die you have from Redding will size the body and bump the shoulder both.As Greg pointed out in his earlier post you may need a small base die as well.If you don't squeeze the base first your cases won't be long enough for the shoulder to bump into your die.
I am shooting several 300 Ackleys and my body die has been cut off right below the threads. That smooth section has been totaly removed.
I will e-mail you the correct way to set up your die but you may have to grind the bottom off of your body die.
Also you need a good press to really bump the shoulders well.A partner press on a 300 Ackley means 4-5 cases before you break off the handle. On my old Pacific press It actually lifts the entire bench off the ground.I switched to a 80 pound Mega-Mite and before I removed the bottom of the die it would take the belts right off of the cases--Leverage is a good thing.
