the 1000yd tuner

it wont be long before you start seeing the tuners on 1000yd guns, mine sure proved its worth at ohio, and caught a few passers by for a second look .two out of three groups were in the 5s, the one bad group we could tell it was just the wind[3 tight and 2 tight below]once i got the verticle condition figured out, they all went right in there.however i did have to change settings the next day but it wasnt much and still not really sure why.i had about 8 inches of verticle, it just about caused a line ref to call cease fire because he thought i was having gun problems when i adjusted the tuner during the sighter period. my muzzle is not stopped because i still got a flipper[1 moa high] when i waited longer than 1 minute. the 7mm tuner gun is just about toasted and i hope it makes it through the nbrsa nats before the barrel craps.i just want to see if i can do a 6 target agg to see if i can be consistant with a tuner, so far it looks pretty good even having to adjust it the effort is much easier then reloading and the fine tune at the bench comes into play, the main problem is can i shoot it consistantly in the winds? soon on to barrel number 2 , i will try to get there during hunting season with a special contour 6mm barrel.good luck mr lynn, and bill i hope it works out for you sir in the end.i have to get ready for colorado and get some orders filled so i will start in on the 6mm test afterwards ,lynn i will look forward to hearing from you on your test. tim in texas

Tim in Texas,

I hope that you are going to be at Byers on Wed, I'd like to look at your tuner(s). I'm leaving on Monday morning so I won't have access to the 'net for a while but I hope we can meet at Byers.
I'll have a big, billet aluminum Heavy that is red and charcoal powder coated. Idaho License Plate: "1000YD" on a GMC 2500 4WD, gas.

How much above bullet dia should the interior of the tuner (or more accurately muzzle device I guess) be bored? For example, .020 over seems to be accepted as about standard for a brake, but I would guess that folks are using much more clearance on these devices.

There is a picture of one here that doesn't go beyond the muzzle.

I don't know about the 5 years mentioned just above this thread. There were quite a few of them at the IBS Score Nationals last weekend, including by the overall winner.

It's hard to tell folks the world is round, when they believe it flat, then have to go out and prove it...

Friend Lynn, I've only spoken to you one time (I enjoyed the conversation), but, we change the world one league at a time.......we look over the next wave and pray we're right.......

Of all the folks on this forum, including me, you my friend, have championed muzzle devices, more than anyone......and taken so much heat for it......

Yes, a competition rifle of any kind, will not be competitive shortly, without a muzzle device......

Lynn, when history is written, you will be one of the "MAJOR" contributors to the advancement of muzzle devices.

Now my friend, we still have work to do.....

Lynn, I see Plymouth Rock in the distance.......so do you.....and shortly, so will the world....

I noticed - - - -

in the picture of Hoke kerns' RF rifle in this month's PS mag he had, in addition to a tuner, a weight clamped to the barrel back about half way. What's up with that? P.

Friend Lynn:

Just came from the range....testing SPEC 7........

Lynn, accuracy development is exciting....I mean exciting.....and the use of barrel devices, man...............it's where accuacy is at...

Anyway, this barreled action, SPEC7, was fit to my slave stock.....shooting conditions were pretty darn good........

I fit a muzzle device, to it, using the average weight, and, barrel size, of the last several rifles I've produced......so I knew what the setting would be for this sized barrel.....I think....

Anyway, I ran my water test, not group shooting, just the water test...

Lynn, it is a killer! MY friend, we're right back where we started....a muzzle device, of the proper weight, and, position at the muzzle, will "stop" the muzzle.....then we never have to fool with the muzzle device again......ain't it simply awesome!

My dear friends, who are working with your muzzle device, and can't seem to find a "sweet" spot..........if you can't stop your muzzle, to where you will never have to move the muzzle device again, you have other problems that a muzzle device simply can't solve....

I'm sorry....a muzzle device tunes the barrel, one time, then adjustments are never necessary again.......

Friend Lynn, so much work to do......
