Just a question is there any benefit to having the form dies versus regular sizing dies to form 6mm BR brass from 7BR brass

a whole bunch of 7BR brass that cost you little or nothing, why not buy good Lapua brass and not waste the time working w/ the 7BR brass. As for reforming the 7MM to 6MM, just lube it up good and run it thru a FL die. You should have an inside reamer to even out the inside of the neck as well ass turning the outside to fit your chamber.

If the forming dies are made correctly there's a huge advantage to using them. When using a standard sizing die to make brass it will ALWAYS form the neck 'way off center, proper forming dies will give you straight, centered necks.

David, he might still have a chamber reamed with one of the old original 6BR Remington minimum spec reamers that did produce a chamber that had a head size about .003 inch smaller than reamers designed to accept the Lapua case, which is considerably larger at the web than the old original Remington Cases.

Back in the '90's, this was a big problem, you don't hear much about it any more........jackie

Much like the difference between

.308 and 300 Savage brass then. Is this the case Shepp?

David

Yes the fired cases I have measure .466 at .200 from the case head I was told by the smith to form from 7br brass. I didn't work up the first batch they were given to me

Yes, you have a chamber reamed with the old style reamer designed for the original Remington Brass.

I have taken several of these through the years, and ran my new style reamer in so that the chamber will accept Lapua Brass.

Back in the '90's, several marketers of Lapua 6BR brass even had a technical note in their Catelogues advising shooters that the (then) new Lapua Brass was too tight in the old chambers that were reamed with a minimum spec reamer dimensioned for the originol Remington Brass.
