My friends:

PSL number 2 is here........

My friends, I'm so fortunate, I have so many great shooters......those awesome "Calfee" shooters take my crummy work, and, with their awesome shooting ability, turn it into National Championships, four in a row in 09'..

This 2nd PSL will be the 5th "National Championship level" match held in rimfire benchrest in 2009'......

Five in a row?

Your friend, Bill Calfee

Would you please enumerate the specific shampionships. I suspect you counted one too many.

I'll be happy for whoever wins, it but I hope it is one of my buddies from Missouri.

Just be glad Killough can't shoot in them.

As Dizzy Dean once said "It ain't bragging if you can do it."

calfree

well lets face it bill produces wining rifles so i guess that gives him the right to brag and have a huge ego. i have been around heavy producers in sales all my life the ones looked up to are the big money makers that s just the way it is.

now bill in his business is going to have to stay on top of his game and continue to work hard because he has made it so. the pressure is on him to find winning shooters to use his procucts in order to justify his pricing and time restrants.

now as bill gets bigger and bigger he is cutting into someone elses sales and then the attacks begin and then the back and forth stuff starts. i have been successful in sales all my life i leave no prisoners and i have faught within my own company regarding jeolusy and petty things and while this was going on the cmpany was destroying itself wihtin customer be damned.

so cut him some slack admire him for his success and if you hate him find a man that can out produce him but just maybe he has some excellant ideas the results show that.

i admire winners whatever their part in business and bill is a very astute businessman.

A question or two, please

Gentlemen:

I am a smallbore prone shooter, so please forgive me for asking these questions…….

It seems to be a BR anomaly that gunsmiths are readily given credit (and status) for any accomplishment achieved with “their” equipment – minimizing the shooters skill and labor invested.

Why is it that any BR gunsmith can claim these victories as his own?

Isn’t it really the shooters who test the ammunition, devote countless hours to tuning these rifles – pour all their “sweat equity” into these guns that makes these victories possible?

I have built quality RF rifles for years, and I hate to tell you that it really isn’t rocket science. It takes meticulous attention to detail, and there are several great smiths out there who build great rifles.

Do you really believe that these champions – if given any other quality rifle, would not invest the time and training to win with them?

Karl Kenyon was and is the finest rimfire gunsmith of our era – with all of the countless records and Olympic victories set with his equipment, many still don’t know who he is (and I don’t believe he would ever start a thread like this one).

Flame retardant suit on in Gibsonburg,

kevin

A really good gun makes all the Benchrest games easier, but anyone who thinks the driver ain't the most important component is fooling them selves. Steve

Kevin,

You make a good point, and I think as you look at the different smallbore shooting sports, you quickly see how different benchrest is than the others (and it ain't just the equipment).

I found it funny that Eric U. shot is new action (in a prone stock) at the first PSL match, and shot some very good targets. Eric actually made that action, yet not a breath was mentioned about it. It's an accomplishment that was completely ignored. You can count the number of top level rimfire action builders in this country on one hand, and some how this got missed. I'm sure we all know why, so it doesn't need stating.

Finally, rimfire BR is shrinking, it's obvious to everyone as to why as well.

I thought EricU shot one of Bob Collins rifles at the PSL match? Didn't know he shot his own? Whichever, he shot some very good scores.
Kevin, you are spot on. Well said.
I found it interesting the RBA didn't post much about David Kenimer winning the indoor nationals with a 1499 out of a possible 1500 either. Still don't know what the other scores were? except for Joe Oates shooting a new world record but much wasn't said about that either. Wonder if he shot Lapua or Eley?

not getting it

boys i take nothing away from anyone i am a duffer and i just about bet if i went to bill and told him thiis and my intentions he would refuse to sell me one on those conditions.

i read those scores see their targets and its amazing past that really that real small bullit hitting those tiny targets. but you are overlooking the big picture here.

bills rifles right now are dominating this sport and some very good shooters are turning in great scores why because they have confidence in this rilfe and the man making it.

my suggestion is join hognisto, hoen, voelker and join up and go after bill prove up to the professional shooters you can build a winning rifle and you wil sell that gun at very good prices. or do this buy a calfree and find out just what he is doing! these winning shooters shoot a lot of bullets a day i can assure.

will it matter probably not but it may. will your rifle win maybe maybe not. those scores are all so close just one better shot would win in many cases.
no one stays dominate for very long in anything gm proves that doesnt it?

i too look for r/f b/r to improve but ammo is going to have to drop some in order to increase it much. my point about r/f b/r guns selling proves up what i am saying. i note increases in sales in anything r/f b/r. the heavy b/r guns are just setting there right now.

so put credit where credit is due overlook some things he is doing a lot of crowing right now well deserved i might add but instead of complaining and whining get after him. i know he gets under your skin but dont lay down go after him.

maybe you have some revolutionary thougths or design that will do the job do it get it on the drawing board and to production. i can tell you i have a gene davis 22 r/f and it s truly spectacular. a work of his art and a credit to the gunsmithing trade. i can sell it for far more than i paid for it it took me 3 months to get it bought.

i bet bill will welcome the competition most leaders in any field do except gm of course what a mess that is.

maybe one of you guys can knock him off his perch but get busy. i look forward to seeing your rifles win against a great gunsmith whether i like him or not really doesnt matter.

Yeah,

Eric shot his new action, the twin front lug single shot, and it is really a marvel. The action is very smooth, interesting, and just goes to show there is more than one approach to this.

Eric also shot this very same rifle the week before that PSL match and whipped some big name rifles on a few cards. Not bad for his prototype action, Kregier barrel, prone stock, and smithed by one of the AMU's gunsmiths. I'm really proud of Eric and his major undertaking. I had a chance to mess with the rifle during the Shot Show, and I was amazed.

#3 action is mine, so you all can get in line after me.!

It's complicated, lots of parts, but more than anything else, it's original.

The funny part is that it was his 2nd BR match. I asked him how the scores would have been if everyone had to shoot prone with him. He just laughed.

calfree

well sounds good and i bet bill calfree will welcome him and if he is as good as you say he is calfree will be very close to him and his rifle to figure out what he is doing especially if he gets into bills sales or reputation some. ill bet bill will treat him with respect all the time he looking that fine rifle over.

we must remember bill is a merchandizor. i would almost bet bill selects some very fine shooters to use his rilfes at a very small charge or maybe even free to get his name in front of us buyers. dont think this isnt done!

dont believe me go to a car race and see top drivers that are paid just to show up big bux draw big names to draw fans.

ill bet calfree is laughing at us right now. i once heard a big time lawyer say he would take bad publicity anytime over no publicity.

again although bill is a promoter of himself and his rifles he still a very good businessman who has figured out how to make a lot of money using self promotion but also building fine rifles.

i would also like to say i bought the gene davis rifle for 1200.00 used but well cared for so i can turn a nice profit on it anytime i want to. he who waits and is patient gets the deals. took one look at it and wanted it but i had a price i wouldnt go over the seller got mad many times but i won out when i buy someting i dont intend to lose if i have to sell it.

Due to complaints I have removed the caustic remarks... you have 9 posts in total, all contributing nothing. Did you join just to be offensive?

I don't know Eric but I have followed and admired his accomplishment and his innovation relative to the shooting sports. This type of unassuming, capable, development is refreashing to see and hear about. For what it's worth, I think a fair number of folks know about it. It would be nice to see that action in a proper BR setup. I hope one eventually sees the light of day.
