at building a rifle. I am not expecting to build a winner on my first attempt, but would like to build a reasonbly accurate 100/200 yarder. ( -1/2" )

My question is, Is the Savage action ( system) easier to build and barrel than some of the others? Seems like it might be with the barrel threading/securing method Savage uses, ugly as it is! ( Pros/cons)

I do have a lathe, milling machine, tool cutter grinder, and a slug of shop equipment.

Chamber and barrel work is really what I would call elementary machine shop practice.

In my opinion, none of the popular actions that are currently used for extreme accuracy applications are any more, or less difficult to work with than another. The trick is you do have to perform some relative precision measurements, regardless of which platform you choose to use.

I do not see the Savage barrel nut as any advantage. If one is so inept at machine work that the realtive simple task of arriving at the correct headspace leaves them fearful, then they probably should let someone else do the work..........jackie
