Fed 205 vs. 205M

Okay, I know this has been beaten to death but I "gotsta" know.

Is there truly a difference between the Fed 205 and 205M?

I have been told countless times that the 205M undergoes a more rigorous and more frequent inspection process. (Not unlike the CCI BR4 and the CCI 400)

............BUT.................

Both primers come off of the same line.

Is this true and is there a "real" difference on the target?

Are the 205M worth the price difference?

Thanks

No

I bought 10,000 regular 205's about two years ago, and I can't tell the difference.
I do have 15,000 205M's that I bought this year because that is what was all that was available when supplys finally came in. But as far as I am concerned, I had to pay more for no good reason other than a prettier box........jackie

O.K. Thanks for the replies.
Now................
Is there a difference between the Federals and the CCI's?
Is it noticeable on paper?

Bruno's had some 205m primers down at the Cactus but that was almost a month ago!

I have not noticed any difference in accuracy with the two types of primers. Actually, the best agg I've shot to date has been with the standard 205.

Some people rave about the CCI br primers--especially for fast twist 6br's but I have never had them outshoot Federals in that gun or any cartridge for that matter-especially not the 6ppc.

CCI BR4's.

I was experimenting with load tune and testing primers, Federal 205M's and CCI BR4's.

At around 29 grains the rifle shot well and would shoot well with 205M's or BR4's. The load was the same and the accuracy was the same, if anything the BR4 may have shot a tiny nat better.

At 30 grains or so with a load drop tubed in from 8 inches I just could not make the BR4's come in tune. I went up and down the powder and in and out on seating but nothing would pull the groups in smaller than high 0.2's to low 0.3's. I began to wonder about the rifle so I loaded 5 with Federal 205M's and shot a 0.18 just like that.

I can only summise that the BR4's just doesn't quite have the flame of the 205M and struggles when the powder is compacted in place via a drop tube, suggests to me that the flame can't work through the powder well enough to get the ignition needed for bench rest accuracy ??

That is only one barrel and one test ...............
