Farley Rest Screws

Hey guys, who makes pointed screws somewhat longer than the original ones for bench top use, not the F class ones but for bench use?

What I did

I got some 3/8 ss threaded rod and cut it to the length I needed. Bought some knobs from McMasters and Carr or Emco, can't remeber which. As for the harden point, this is a Hilti 1/4- 20 hardened power drive in stud, may have been a Ram-stet stud ?? Drill & tap the 3/8 rod for the 1/4 -20 and screw the stud. Grind the point to the desired point shap.

Hope this helps

I don t know if this will help but in the 80s we would drill the 3/8s stud to 5/16 , get some armo piercing 30 cal bullets remove the jackets and silver solder them in place. Still using the ones I did 30 years later with no signs of wear.

Tim I am sorry ,I made a mistake its not drilled to 5/16 ,You should mic the carbide core to get the right drill size ,It may be 1/4.

I made some of these up and used Concrete nails cut off for the new tips; work good.

Now- a- day however, all the tips do is hold my Super Feet in place :)

I also use the .30 cal AP tips. But i drill and bore the exhisting screw so the hole is slightly undersized. The I heat the screw to expand it and press the tip in right out of the freezer. The resulting fit is amazingly snug and the tips are a thing of beauty. Recent job posted below.
