what do you do about the sight picture fading to fast and x- hairs blur, looking away and then back helps but takes to much time:(
i wear about 150 script, high definition progressive bifocals .
I've tried shooting without glasses, cranked on the scope till it's bout wore out! v24x varmint weaver, fine xhair 16th dot.
watched a video on bullzeye pro magnifier that suggested it would help.....help:confused:

Focus

Earl. If you focus the scope properly, the eye strain is reduced. Sounds like your eyes are trying to do the focusing. The 3X adapter helps, but maybe it's time to admit you are old and need to go to the eye doc for a solution. Higher power scopes would be better that the v24X. Get out the old sock and opt fo a 42X Nightforce.

when i decide to give up on the Infidel Rimfire Rifle Team I'll buy a real benchrest set up, but for now I'm trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, gun has to look like a squirrel rifle...gonna change my name to squirrel

gambler, I too use progressive(no line) glasses. I've been told that the transition can mess with us, and perhaps just the bifocals might be better for shooting. For certain I know that I need at least 36X;)

gambler; If you change your name to squirrel that would cause me a lot of sorrow. You see my younger brother was called squirrel and we lost him December 16th 2009. trying to move on with my life but still think of him every day . garrisone.

I use progressive lenses with no ill effects. I think you are not perfectly focused on the recticle(rear focus adjustment). Focus on the reticle while looking at a white wall. When it's in focus for you, lock it and leave it alone. Your eyes will try to correct for poor focus so don't look for any length of time...just glance in then away. Set your front focus every time you set up. Each range is a little different and if you are out of focus on either end, it will wear you out.

garrisone..
your brother would want you to move on and take him with you locked within your heart....it's hard to type with tears in your eyes, i lost a younger brother myself
None are ever gone away, none of those we love
For love will keep them locked away, as they smile from up above:)

Could be mirage. Sometimes it's so bad it makes you think you're going blind.

I used to suffer from this problem a lot, especially at 25m indoor under fluorescent lights.

Two things that help - look away and take a couple of deep breaths. Oxygen starvation is one of the things that affect the eyes holding focus. The other is dehydration (even at this time of year), try drinking a large cup of water before sitting at the bench. On hot days make sure you have a bottle of water at the bench. Avoid coffee or any caffeine drinks at all costs (dehydrator).

Not very sexy answers I’m afraid, but both work.

I wonder if the issue is that you have focussed your crosshairs with your eye in one relation to your progressive lens & shoot with the eye in another?

Pistol shooters stick little pasters on their spectacle lenses with an aperture for them to look thru. Now while their purpose is to gain depth of field, could you use the same process to ensure that you are looking thru the same piece of lens all the time & maintaining a constant correction?

and some people i've known go to the eye doctor to make them up a
set of lenses just to shoot with, if you have an old set of frames it'd
save you a few bucks. just get a plain lens in your shooting eye and
a lens for watching your flags with the other. you'll have to carry your
regular glasses in your shirt pocket for when you're done shooting. but
it's better being able to see.

i squint my left eye and open the sight eye as i'm right handed and left eyed, today i tried shootin with both eyes open, every shot hit nine o'clock left on the edge of the 100 ring, then tried shootin left handed....no way that's gonna work

have you thought of readjusting your scope a little to the right if you're
hitting at nine?

fine xhair 16th dot.

It may be that what you have there is something so small you simply can't see it. I know with my old eyes (but new lens) I would have trouble keeping it in sharp focus. Try a bigger dot or heavier cross hairs.

if you are cross dominant try this, take something like a postage stamp that isn't permanent and put it on your left lense. aim with your right takes a little bit to adjust but it works.

gambler - I had something similar going on last year, I have 20/20 eyesight and was having the same issues as you report but after numerous trips to a optometrist and trying some corrective lenses, which never helped, I went to an opthamologist (I hope the spelling is correct - eye doctor). On examination he found that I was developing a cataract, he fixed that problem and the blurring problem went away.

This is just something that you may want to think about. Good luck on resolving the issue, I know how frustrating it can be.

i've shot in archery competition for 40 years, about 20 years ago i developed a large angioma on my right eye lid that the doc says is too dangerous to remove:eek:, i call it Herbie my pet dog tick:D well when i bend my neck down to look thru a rear sight or scope ol' Herbie has to block part of my vision..ya gotta love him:p..this causes my left eye to take over and groups to spread horizontal, in my vision i see a V shaped shadow in the right eye..
was wondering if super high scope rings would help or just cause more problems, don't think i could ever learn to do anything left handed but shake hands with a liberal:D

you could look at the optical booster by Jay Eller at Bulzeyepro.com it is mean't to help with poor eye sight, he has a video on to expalin how it works and can help.

i heard the screw in caps for a t-36 will fit the v24 if you push them in past the rubber eye piece ring, i'm going to contact bullzeye pro and see what they say, i'd rather have the screw in type instead of the slip over type
