Extended Stay America Fireams Policy

Many of us that attend the Super Shoot, events at Canastota and events at Phoenix utilize the Extended Stay America Hotels. At my most recent stay at the one in Coplay Ohio I noticed that they now have a policy of absolutely no firearms on the property.

This gives me grave concerns as an American Citizen that has the right--not privilege-but right to keep and bear arms.

I have informed Extended Stay I will no linger be using them as a place to stay.

I thought this information was worthwhile to pass along to other shooters so they can take Extended Stay's policy into consideration when they are making decisions on booking motel/Hotel rooms

If they reply to my letter with more information on their policy--I will pass along as appropriate

I'm sure "Extended Stay"s notice regards firearms will eliminate the armed robbery problem the desk clerks fear. Oops...sorry, not "desk clerks".."night auditors"

No problem in phoenix

Linda and I have reservations at the Extended Stay in Phoenix for the NBRSA Nationals.

I called to cancel our reservations. I talked to the manager and they do not prohibit firearms.

hit them where it hurts.....in the wallet.

ask the event co-ordinator(kelby's) to add a note TO NOT STAY AT EXTENED STAY due to thier anti gun policy in the registration flyer/online notes.

let extended stay corprate understand that this major event will be actively organizing lodging locations in the area, but with a note to avoid extended stay.

Motels and firearms

True story:

In 2004, Stan and Suz Ware were traveling back to Minnesota from the IBS Score Nats in Painted Post, N.Y. and stopped at a motel in Ohio for the night. The motel had a firm 'No Firearms' policy. Stan, being a generally obediant and semi-domesticated sort, opted to comply and left his Hunter and VfS gun in the van.

You guessed it..their van and several other vehicles were broken into!

Luckily for Stan, the bottom dwellers only grabbed what they could reach....netting only a bag of dirty clothes and a Leupold spotting scope.

It could have been much worse.

Thanks for the heads up, Jim. -Al

I have 2 rooms booked at the Extended Stay in Deer Valley for this year's Nationals. We have stayed with them for the past 4 or 5 years. Needless to say, Jim's warning caused a lot of concern, especially with the scarcity of rooms in Phoenix. So I called and spoke with the manager and her quote was as follows: "Tell all your shooting buddies that we pride ourselves as being the best armed hotel in Phoenix." They have always been more than accommodating even providing us with rolling dolleys to get all our stuff in and out of the room. I also do a lot of preloading in the room and there has never been even the slightest question about what all that gunpowder, bullets and loading gear is doing on the kitchen table.

If I didn't know Jim better, I would have said that he was just trying to scare up some cancellations so that he could get a room there.

Anyhow, the policy at this particular Extended Stay is currently very favorable to us folks, but please check the policy of any other prior to booking.

I spend in excess

of 200 nights a year in motels due to my business. And I can attest to the reality of Jim's original statement. And I can also tell you that theer are a lot of cities out there that if your vehicle is broken into and your firearms are stolen, it will be you who is charged, not the perps.those of us who travel w/ firearms, be they pistols, varmint rifles, or BR target rifles, are ALL well advised to pay attention to where we stay. Even w/ the recent Supreme Court ruling, you can rest assured there will be over-zealous enforcement officers or local rulings that will hassle at best and charge at worst. Fore warned is forearmed

Policy may be local

the reason I posted the advisory is an experience I had at the ESA in Copley Ohio in August during the IBS Nationals. They had an ESA brochure on the table and I read it--then talked with the desk clerk about it --and the no firearms policy on the premises was clear.

Thus far--my email contacts with ESA corporate have all gotten standard messages back saying--thanks for your comments--we can not immediately answer your comments at this time due to our volume of inquiries.

I plan top call corporate today and determine whether they have an overall corporate policy on firearms--or did I run into a specific problem with one location (Copley OH)

Update on Followup with ESA

I called Corporate again this morning to inquire about policies on firearms. I was told that corporate does not handle that--reservations handles those policies. I was transferred to reservations and when I asked about Firearms policy --I was told that reservations does not handle that--corporate handles policies.

I told the lady that corporate had referred to reservations--she took my name and number for guest Services to call later and to understand that due to volume of calls to guest services-I may not be contacted today.

I will post the information I get here.
