Do we have a company making gun powder here in the US?

I can't seem to find

Do we have a company making gun powder here in the US? I think it's all imported.

a made in USA statement on anything newish...Australian, Canada. Older cans and bottles seem to indicate it was at one time made in the good ol'e US of A. --Greg

Alliant makes powder in Radford, VA Part of the ATK group of products.

Dale

Yes, and now Alliant has been bought out by BAE (British Aerospace). More confusing, I have a friend who works at the Radford Arsenal plant as a product manager and he is on the payroll of Federal!!

If "We The People" don't force Congress to stop this insanity of exporting all the jobs "We The People" will not last much longer as a nation!!

I think powder is still being made at the Winchester St. Marks plant in Florida isn't it?

a good reason to use Winchester powders if one fits my application. Made in USA...sounds like they are. I have some 760 that I really like in my .22-250 and 06 with heavier bullets.

The plant was never owned by Winchester, and Olin (parent company which used to own the Winchester trademark) sold it to General Dynamics about 10 years ago. St Marks Powder is presently still a subsidiary of GD, and all they make is ball and flake powder.

That makes St Marks and IMR pretty much owned by GD since GD owns a part of IMR which was moved to Canada after DuPont sold it??

But, as glp wrote St Marks products are still MADE in USA! A reason to use it if it will do the job.

That answered my question. with all of the other companies selling out I was wondering if there were any left?
That said it looks like international conglomerates rule the powder industry and most being out of the country.
so here we are having foreign governments controlling our powder supply to some extent.
It makes me wonder what would happen If?????? we went to war or if???? the government decided ???? etc etc.
WE not in charge of our own powder supply''''

"We the People" are not in control of our own lead supply now that the last running lead smelter was recently shut down. And we have billions of tons of elemental lead in the ground here.

Thanks Tricky Dick Nixon for giving us the EPA!! (See, I hate the GOP equally with the Dems!)

Those of us who were shotshell reloaders, big time, remember when 25# bags of leas shot went from $3.75/bag to $40 in the late 1980's. Turns out the Russians were buying up the free-world's supply of lead....making radiation-proof bomb shelters. I'll bet they destroyed them when they "tore down that wall" and became good guys?? (Thanks Ronnie R)

Do

That sure sounds about right. I have seen plenty of powder for the smokeless muzzle loaders around.
That may be all that's available if it keeps up.

I guess i'll have to change the lock on my percussion muzzle loader to change it to flint and take off the nipple.
