Die Set Advise

1 in 8" it is indeed! Getting back to the original post, I would love to hear what all you guys are using, and appriciate the input so far. As far as a load, to start I have a bunch of fed 210m primers, 16 pounds of varget, and a hundred or so 105 a-maxs, you know, just laying around.

You will need Fed 205M not the 210M. The Lapua brass uses a small rifle primer. I have three 6MM BR that have been used for woodchuck hunting and club matches. I am using the Redding Comp Dies sets with a FL typeS bushing and Micro seater. It may not be benchest quality, but nome of the woodchucks have compained.

Yeah, I guess I'd have a tough time cramming those 210m's in that case. Next time, I'll think a little before I post.

I have a Savage Long Range Bench Rest in 6mm BR with a 1 in 8" twist. With very little development, I settled on 29.5 grains of Varget behind 108 Berger match bullets (not VLD) with 205m's in Lapua cases. Seating is about .020 off the lands. It has done extremely well for me in egg shoots and IBS Score factory class. One day, I may actually work on load development!

Like many others I really love Savage. I acually considered buying a Long Range Bench Rest like you have before deciding to build on a gun I have (a Savage). What kind of groups do you average with it?

Groups? We don' need no stinkin' groups! Can't say as I've shot it much for groups. I can say that it mostly hits the 10 ring in IBS score at 100 and 200 yards, and it's never missed an egg at 200 in 40 tries. I did notice that on the last sighter target in the last egg shoot it put the three shots into 3/8 inch at 200 yards. I'm using a 10-40x30mm Osprey scope. I have two, and wish I could find more.

Next would be a Wilson seater die, with a micrometer top if you want to go all out. But hey, that's just me.

I don't imagine there is any quality or accuracy advantage to getting the micrometer top over the standard one. I will only be using this for one gun. So I'm thinkin I might save the money and not give up any quality. Am I right? The only consideration would be if I get another 6br down the road and then had two guns to load for. And yeah, I know this gun bug only grows, and grows.

No a micrometer top adds no accuracy, it is just very convenient when testing different seating depths.

Another option to quickly decrease the seating depth when using the Wilson seater is shims. They go around the shat of the seater stem just under the knurled top ring. Add shims to decrease seating depth, take away to increase. Start with some in there and you can go either way. Nice thing is they don't cost much and you can use them on your other Wilson dies too. Just keep good notes on what you used.
