dc on friday

i have never been to an swearing in, at my age this might be the
one to go to. stay a couple hundred miles away and take a bus/train in.
checked on rooms at 100 miles they are about twice normal.
trying for a reserved parking garage space. that will cinch the deal for me.
forecast says rain so may not be real bad as far as crowds.

I drove the top half of the DC beltway this morning. EVERY overhead sign said "consider Metro on Friday". I strongly urge you to park out in the hinterlands (Vienna VA, etc) depending on which way you are coming from and take Metro in. With all the crazies on Friday driving may be impossible, especially for someone unfamiliar with the DC area road system which is a nightmare on a good day. Enjoy the pomp and circumstance and bask in the glow of our peaceful transfer of power. Then jump back on Metro and escape. bob

You mean normally it is a 10 min trip, Friday will be a zoo. Used to do service work all over the DC area knew all the good ways in and out. Now I avoid it like the plague.
Dick

Come on Dick. Where's your sense of adventure?

I went to DC on a training "boondoggle" once. The traffic was pretty bad during the day but I was almost alone at 3AM. Went about everwhere there was to go...but I shouldn't have gone to the Vietnam memorial. Just sayin'....

ok stayed just outside 60 miles and drove in. room rate was normal.
got there a bit late and this was as close as i could get..right at 1000 yds..my guess.
the pics posted by the press have to have been taken at 8 am.
at 1130 all was full but the press area directly in front of me.
it is the only white spot in the news at 1200!
glad i went.

Spent a week there, thought I saw everything, but, boy was I wrong. The two creapest places I visited was the Viet Nam Wall and, by far was the Korean Monument, it was actually scary. But you know what I was told by the Motel and Restaurant patrons. Get out of downtown by 6:00pm at the latest.
