Dave Kiff Needs Advice

I need help making a decision on new products. I have completed my second run of one piece billet Remington bolts with tactical handles, also Remington detachable magazine bottom metal for Wyatt Outdoors. See the attachments below for pictures of the bolts. My question is should I machine one piece bolts for sale and would there be market for them at $225 each? Also, if I made another run of 40 X Rimfire botls would anyone be interested in them at $200 each? Let me know your feelings on these or any other parts, tools or reamers I should machine and keep on the shelf. Please email pacpes@medford.net. Thank you!

Normally I could care less if a bolt handle is silver soldered or welded to the bolt body, if it falls off somebody is leaning on it too hard or doing something else stupid................but if you can make a one-piece bolt body and handle while selling it for $225, I say go for it, but watch out, some of the major action mfg. might just have you making all their bolt assemblys.

How much was Neseika charging for replacement one-piece bolt assemblies, quite alot more I suspect.

Very clean looking one-piece bolts!...............Don

Beautiful products Dave....you are a credit to the shooting community. Great stuff...great prices...and constantly thinking ahead. I do have one question....will the rimfire bolts come with the firing pin assy at the same price or is it additional.

Keep up the good work and kudos on listening to the shooters.

Remington Bolt Replacements

Dave:

Are you going to offer them in diameters other than .701?

Are you going to offer them with Remington Extractors?

Are you going to offer them with detachable bolt heads like Savages but for Remingtons?

Makes the bolt welders future dim.

great idea!!!

I looked into a replacement Nesika Bolt to facilitate a swap bolt swap barrel application that I wantd to do several years ago and they wanted between $750-800 for one. No thank you was my response.

I did build that rifle with a surgeon action - the second complete bolt with a magnum boltface cost $425.00 from my smith - I suppose I might have gotten one cheaper direct from Surgeon, but my smith is a heck of a guy and deserved the business (at least I thought so).

Dave,

First off, thank you for all your help on my new reamers last week! Everyone says it but I will say it one more time...you're the best!

No disrespect to Wyatt but I wish you would make the Badger style bottoms in a complete unit. They do a poor job of leaving sharp edges and if someone like me prefers that release system, we are stuck with them and the extra work of fixing and refinishing the part. You could do it much better and I would rather spend the money with you anyway!

The bolt...beautiful work! But, why the fine checkering knurling on the handle/knob? It's a tactical bolt and you either grab it or use an open-hand method and in either case it does not help (might hurt open handed). Plus, it is another place for a buch of dirt to embed and thus extra cleaning. Tac guns get dirty!

Now if i can also talk you into building tac actions then I can buy all my parts in one place! :D

Dave, I just bought two Rem bolts from you with handles, knobs and extractors which I waited a few weeks for and spent $313.59. It took several minutes to fit the extractor and then $80.00 and another couple of weeks for Dan Armstrong to attach the bolt handles. This adds up to almost $200.00 per bolt. If the Sako extractor is installed or is at least a true "drop in" and there was little or no wait, one piece bolts might be a good deal. If we still have to wait then might as well stick with the current situation. I shoot many hundreds of rounds each spring and would want only smooth knobs.

Dave

Great Price, and a great product.

Shooters who swear by brazed on bolt handles have never had on come off in a match. I have taken all of my Farley Bolts and secured them with two 8-32 screws to facilitate the strength of the brazed joint. I did this after one cam off in the heat of battle.

I was not "doing something stupid" as one poster suggested, it finally just succumned to over 20,000 rounds.

I am no big fan of that Sako Extractor in that location, but with a Remington, your options are limited. Either that, or attempt to install the factory style.

Just curious, what material are you using??.......jackie

southpaw support!

Dave, what German Salazar said +1! Maybe it's where I am somewhat new at this, but doesn't the Sako extractor sacrifice the inherent strength of the Remington system? Jim Carmichal's comparison of the Remington system to a chinese finger trap made sense to me!

Thanks!
Greg

Sako Extractor?

A closer look at the photographs Dave posted reveals that these particular bolts are not cut for Sako extractors, but are machined for a different design which pivots on a retaining pin. This may help to mitigate the tendency of the extractor to come out in the event of a case head failure.

I do know that Dave Kiff's products are excellent Quality. I like being able to order a bolt in the exact diameter that I need.

How about a Stolle Panda Bolt with .308 bolt face, sure would make it
easier to chamber up for a 30 Br.

I'm going to say no on these unless I can machine the handle for fore/aft clearance and timing/extraction.

Shrouds that fit tight
Rem rivot style extractors
Scope bases
Recoil lug pins

Action blanks, short, long, 1.5" Lapua mag, bmg single, bmg repeater

Being ignorant to the mechanics of a bolt, how are they timed if the handle and bolt are one piece? are they generic and will work in any action? I have been told that a bolt and handle needs timed. I own 2 of your bolts with the handles welded on and they are perfect for me. thanks, Ron Tilley

Need bolt bodies only,

Dave,

Easy project: make us some cylindrical bolt bodies, .700 to .702 diameter (your choice) that have Remington cocking cams and 1/2-13 thread on one end and the other end is blank. End user will cut to length for long or short Rem receiver and install Savage bolt head. End user also installs bolt handle of choice.
Please, please make some of these for us tinkerers.

Thanks,

Jay McMunn,
