Thought I'd mention that they have announced that if they cannot secure a buyer by September, the doors close.

That's sad. We sure bought a lot of tool steel from them thru the years.

The politics and unfriendly attitude along with the environmental issues are the problems When it shut,s down your going to loose the finest Knife making material available, Not to mention Barrel steels, and tool Steel.
I live here and i worked there years ago. It's a great company .
If someone was smart they wold pick up on this one.
They need financing .

Good Ole America

We've driven so many fine industries out of business. I suspect the Chinese are waiting in the wings.........jackie

That's really sad

Their steels for the most part are where all my knowledge lies. I have their notebooks with all of the heat treating methods. Since I don't have an EDM, I had even planned on making bullet dies from CPM 10V or CPM 15V, just to see how close these steels could get to the performance of carbide dies. Who knows if I'll ever even consider this project now.

We need to start adjusting to the new greener, more earth friendly, and less polluting economy. The envoromentalists will celebrate this loss as one less carbon footprint on the land. Change is coming.

Bob ; While we are getting greener china is getting blacker.
Crucible is cleaned up quite a bit. I don't see colored smoke anyMore.
Crucible has new stacks and is very clean today.
There is a problem with a few bad decisions from people on the board though.
They need new financing a few upgrades and a board with a different idea about marketing. The product line is top notch and very competitive in price. The marketing system need some help.
You should be able to buy direct and not through a middleman.

One of the big problems is the scraping of our old war ships.
tankers etc. They are sold to third world countys and melted down with near slave labor. The envioronmental issues would gag you.
India is on culprit. There was a documentary on TV about how India scraps our ship's for remelt. No one in this country would even dream of using those techniques.
Johnsons GREAT SOCIETY doesn't work.

I agree completely; however, more and more the enviromentalists seem to be calling the shots and congress is going along with their crazy agenda. The enviromentalists appear to be anti-industry, agriculture, business, and anything that uses fossil fuels. Given the polictical, and tax, constraints I find it amazing that any American industry can remain competative against the likes of the Chicoms, India and others.
