Coned breech with standard r700 bolt

I've read about using a standard Remington bolt in conjunction with a coned breech. Any pointers? I would just bust one out, but that whole measure twice cut once thing haunts me.

It doesn't work with a standard Rem bolt. I've done it after installing a Sako extractor but even then it works best for PPC and smaller cases.

If you have a coned bolt barrel and want to screw it into Remington Action, (assuming it's a 1 1/16 16 TPI), you have to chuck the barrel up and establish the counterbore for the nose of the Remington bolt.

Back when Stiller brought out his drop port, I bought one for my Rail Gun, which had a standard L/R Stiller Viper on it, with the 30 degree cone. I had several good barrels for the Rail, so I just machined them to where the Stiller Drop Port Bolt, ( which has a Remington style nose), would fit.

Now, you could machine the end of the barrel flat, resulting in a .100 short tenon. I don't think that is a good idea, as the thread is already kind of short. Plus, not sure how well it would feed.

Keep in mind, all of this does defeat the safety feature of the Three Rings Of Steel that is part of the Remington design.

Here is what the Coned Bolt Barrels of the Rail Gun Barrels looked like after machining them to accept a Remington style nose.

Jackie,

That's how I've done a few in the past, recess incorporated with the cone. So there's no real way, without bolt modification, to fully cone the face...I can live with that.
