Completely off topic!!

It is an Ardun head flathead Mercury.
The location of the magneto tells me that is a 59AB block, '41 to '48. I never could tell the difference between the Ford and Merc, and it's something I've been trying to sort out. Currently, I'm of the opinion that there was no difference until the 8BA was introduced in '49, the Merc having the larger displacement. Can anyone clarify?

I'm guessing that a replacement housing for that broken magneto is available from Vertex.

Also had '46 and '48 Fords when I was in high school.

heads

I remember in the early sixties we could buy them in Canada for around $350 used. They came from England from scraped Trucks and Buses. All the parts where shipped in a wooden box and had been cleaned and checked for wear. It took 3 or 4 months to arrive. I believe that the heads were manufactured in England and Arden owned the factory. The few that made it to the road were found to be not as fast, and the stock chev 265 and buicks that cost the same used, and didn't require as much work to rework. The flat head with hot after market parts looks far nicer and weighed a couple hundred pounds lighter ,plus did not use so much space. Rick
