Complete BR Equipment List

Hey gang...
Can someone point me to an old thread that might contain a complete list of what we BR shooters need to shoot competitively...??? For example, front rest, rear rest, baby powder...cases, powder, bullets, primers...etc... Trying to help a "newbie" get started and I know these lists are out there, I just can't find one right now. After nearly 30 years, If I gave him my list, he'll end up with a 100-pound toolbox and probably need a tractor trailer to haul everything...
You can post here (others might need it as well) or send me an email - harshman AT lvc DOT edu
Thanks!

Packing List

Hi Kent,

I had copied this list quite a few years ago! Hope this helps!

My check list!
Guys for what its worth I drag 4 boxes to the range and have bunch of "seperate items" that I also take. Below is the check list that I use. It has saved me from leaving equipment behind a time or two, when throwing stuff into the motorhome or back of the truck for a shoot! You can copy and paste and modify for your own use.

Kent,

I don't think there will ever be a complete list of everything you need for Benchrest. And there will be many things one competitor uses that you may never need. One example, Baby Powder. I've never used it.

With the advent of new materials like the new 3M material for front and and rear bags, you don't need powders, used dryer sheets, silicon sprays, Rain-X, deodorant sticks, or car wax, and you might not even need stock tape [time will tell on that one].

My suggestion is to take a step back, and ask yourself what you need right now. Start with a list of maybe 10 to 15 items, then add as you develop a requirement.

A lot of reloading is being done with the RCBS ChargeMaster Combo these days by some of the top shooters, and others are preloading at home for the 30BR, for example, because it's so easy to develop a load that works in all kinds of conditions.

With that cartridge, if you shoot Score, you can leave much of the redundant reloading equipment some guys bring to the range, for reloading at the range, off your list.

Go slow, and you'll save not only a lot of money but a lot of excess equipment that eventually spends the rest of its life in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. Good Luck! :)

I think Bill's very comprehensive list will give Kent exactly what he wants or at least give him a list he can edit as he feels is appropriate.

Bill McIntyre...

...please send me your email address to harshman AT lvc DOT edu. I tried the one in your profile, but that came back as undeliverable...
