My .22 cal Dewey cleaning rod is to big in diameter for my .22 rimfires.

My .17 cal rod will not accept the .22 cal bore brushes.

Please recommend a cleaning rod.

Thank you.

Ivy is the choice of many, me included. Call Dan Killough at KSS to obtain one and the rod guide to go with it. bob

Buy a .187 (.20 caliber) diameter rod from Dewey, Ivey, Pro-Shot or others. I have used Dewey .22 cal rods in my .22 rifle before with no problem.. I now have a set of Myers Cleaning Rods in .187 diameter and they are excellent...

If Dewey 'wont fit' let him know. He will want to know that and make it right.

How is it they 'wont fit'? I have 3 and all mine fit. With the latest batch of patches they are "TIGHT" and my son helped me to sand down a jag so I could get it thru the bore.

My newest Dewey .22 cal rod will fit my 40x but not my CZ 452 (I had an old one that will fit but it was too short for the bore guide). I spoke with the folks at Dewey and they were aware of the problem. They DID NOT offer ao make it right, they suggested that I buy a .20cal rod.
I informed them that I would not buy another $45 Dewey rod because the .22 cal rod should fit all .22 cal rifles. I'll buy an Ivy or some other brand but I'm done with Dewey products.

Thanks for the update on dewey rods, guess my next will not be a dewey as I planed. T bad they will not make things right when you spend that kind of money on there rods.

CZ seems to have a smaller bore............My Dewey would not work on it, I used a .17 rod for it..........Dewey worked on all
other 22s.

22 rf cleaning rods

Dewey 17 cal and 20 cal adapter 17A Brownells #234-800-117ad is what you need for those rods to accept 8-32 accessories. The reason to use small diameter rods is to clear the ejector with the rod or you will scrape the rod every pass.

I ruined a brand new Dewey .22 cleaning rod. The very first day i received it from Brownells, took it out of the tube put the bore guide in my CZ 453 Vamint proceded to clean rifle and put a nice long scrape about 4 in. up from the jag.Called up Dewey and was told i was on my own, next time get a.20cal. or17.cal. rod.

A good recommendation is the Ivy 0.187 diameter rim fire rod threaded for 8-32. If you do not have one, a good bore guide is also an investment you will not regret.

For rim fire rifles, if your ejector is easily removable it is a good idea to take it out and stone off any sharp edges. They are not necessary for the ejector to function.
