Chinese electrics:

Does anyone here know if the electrical components in the Chinese Central Machinery lathes are replaceable by parts and components available here in the US? We have determined that the relay that operates the reverse switch sticks and overrides the emergency cut off as well as allows the machine to run for up to 12 seconds after the switch lever is thrown. I, obviously, want to fix this. Even though I have been trained on electrics and electronics in the distance past, I have never felt comfortable working with it and it's components. A Black Hole would describe my lack of knowledge and interest in the area. Just never could seem to keep the whole mess sorted out in my head.

Thanks,

Pete

Pete,

I have the complete control box out of my Taiwanese 1236 I will send it you if you can use parts from it. I yanked it out when I converted the lathe to VFD.

Thank You Nez,

I would indeed love to have it. I will happily send you the cost to get it to me. I will PM you my address.

Thanks again,

I had the motor go bad on my enco 12x36 and put a 230 volt single phase reversible motor on it with a barrel switch for reversing, and just got rid of the original electronics. In the near future i'm going to put a three phase motor on it with a VFD.

Yes, any of that stuff can be replaced with common parts. If the relay is socketed it might be easier to buy a new socket and relay than try to find a relay that matches your existing socket. You'll need to know what voltage you're activating the relay with (you can always go much higher in the voltage and current ratings on the contact side, so don't sweat that too much) and in a safety circuit you really want to use a relay with "force guided" contacts.
