Charge variation in tuning w/ BR case

What is the maximum charge variation I should use in my initial tuning of a 30BR? 0.5 grains of H4198? 0.3 grains? I normally use 0.5 to narrow it down and then focus in on a smaller window. But, these cases have much more capacity than a 30BR. I am afraid I am going to go by a node with 0.5 grains.

I don't believe so.... So far I have found that the 30BR is friendly in ways but not in others....

I'm getting "ahold" of the neck tension thing.. Defiantly it likes stiff...(STIFF) .004 + under the loaded round neck diam.

Then there is recoil through the bags.... I'm a .22 /6mm group shooter and my bag is set-up for just that... For me, I feel this may be not quite Ideal...
Maby a Edgewood Gator bag would help keep a 10.5 30BR rifle settled down through recoil better (I pin all my guns..No free recoil)... I'm not sure... I believe this is "part" of my poor score shooting issue.......:confused:

I may get a chance to test more tomorrow with the 30BR and 115gr Bergers / 118 Cheeks and will let ya know.......

The tune with 4198 is pretty stable from 32.0gr @ 2900 - 33.9gr @ 2990 ... This in a custom action and 118gr pills.......... .3 /.5 increments don't matter to much.... I do know this......! My gun don't like < 31.5gr of 4198......! Vertical baby...!

I use an increment of .3 for H4198 with my 30BR. I have found smaller increments to be useful as well but I usually do that after I find the approximate node the combo likes. So far I have had 6 barrels from 4 manufacturers and not many shot at the same charge. Big part of the reason is the powder. I am usually changing lots of powder about every other barrel. In Maine I haven't shot any loads below 34.6 but I use 118 grainers almost exclusively. Randy J.
 
I do this a bit differently - - -

I use .5 increments with the powder and then seating depth to find a round hole. So far, I haven't needed to get any finer than that. I know people do this thing differently but I want to be able to shoot bullets as fast as possible with accuracy. When I use to use N-130 I use to find an accuracy node @ about every 1.5g as I recall. I am using H-4198 now but haven't had much time to mess with it.
