Chambering the 6.5x284 on the G4003G with pics

Butch I agree with you..

But, if you are going to indicate the throat anyway, why not do all your machining from that one point instead of two. Then everything is as close to concentric, and perpendicular as possible. Would also save a step, which would save time.

My two cents, thats all..

pearidge,
I do mine in one setup. I was just saying that a slight thread concentricity problem is not a problem if the shoulder is square to the bore. I would like to think that mine are concentric to the bore since I use 1 setup.

Who said the threads were not concentric.... and...concentric to what?

many believe the ptg rod is the best reference point. I wouldn't even consider disputing that.

I'm saying, I cut the threads, referencing from the ptg rod, and cut the chamber referencing from the throat. in most cases they agree within a .001"

So, what is your method of indication in detail..pearidge..??

indicate the throat as close to .0001 as possible, then turn and ream chamber, recheck at throat and turn threads, shoulder

its the throat that is where the bullet meets the bbl...alll must be a straight as possible at that point.
we know that some bbls(most bbls ??) are not perfectly straight end to end in the bore. the bullet needs to meet the rifling square. indicating at any other point than the throat is not doing the bullet transition much good.

Before reaming, I indicate the throat as stated in the original text.

Is there a good arguement to ream before threading? vs threading first and re-indicating?

or just a preferencial issue?
