case capacity of 30PPC vs 300 Whisper

does anybody have a good estimate of the difference in capacities was wondering about trying a 300 Whisper as a score gun I already have the 30 BR and I am happy with it just looking for something different. maybe very low recoil?

300 whisper

Those that tout the 300 whisper say it is a ballistic twin of a regular .762x39. That seems a stretch, as it will not hold as much powder.
I amagine you could push a 108 to 112 grn 30 caliber bullet around 2500 fps with this chambering, Recoil should be quite low.
What parent case are they using for the 300 Whisper?? I know it is a 221 fireball necked up to 30, but the only cases available for that round is Remington. We all know the quality of Rem brass as compared to what we are accustomed to with Lapua. Making the cases out of a longer .375 rim diameter case would seem to be pretty labor intensive.
But you are right. It would be something different, and recoil should be quite a bit less than even a 30 PPC.......JACKIE

I don't think the .221 Fireball has the case capacity of the .220 Russian. It may be close but it's smaller, I think. I have some .221 cases and could check if anybody is really curious about it.

Top loads in the Whisper are only about 20 grains of powder. With most bullets, except the really light ones, you will only be getting around 2100 to 2200 fps in a rifle. Don't forget, the cartridge was designed to be subsonic with the heavy, high BC 30 caliber bullets, which is why J D Jones uses the 221 Fireball case. There are versions made from both 222 Rem and 223 Rem brass that are a little more capacity but, as Jackie said, it takes work to make the cases and you may as well go to a bigger case and save the trouble.

Somebody had to try the 30br for the first time. Give it a whirl, who knows where it will lead. The heavy bullet twist is 1-8". Twist it for what you are going to shoot and have at it. I've seen some impressive groups on line. You may just be starting a new fad. No balls..... No blue chips. No guts.....No glory. I like a trail blazin' attitude. Stay Safe ....Doug;)

Ya know I just wanted an idea of the case capacity between the 2 rounds that is all. 1 No Lapua does not make 221 fireball cases, big deal I don't use Lapua brass now sorry. 2 Since the case is small it won't have as much speed as a 30XXX ok I don't load for the last possible fps. 3 This was just a question since I have 400+ cases some formed some not, it's just something to mess around with. I already have a 30BR for that serious stuff( or at least as serious as I get anymore)

I think you received some decent answers. Your initial title asked about the 300 Whisper as compared to a 30PPC. I guess the short answer would have been, it has about 30 percent less capacity.

It was also brought up that the main reason for this rounds existance was to shoot heavier 30 caliber bullets at a sub-sonic velocity.

Sorry if we gave you too much info........jackie
