Caldwell does a knockoff of the Farley Coax

This may be common knowledge by now. Watching a shooting program this evening I see a commercial featuring a coax rest by Caldwell identical to a Farley but for color. They are selling for $229 at Cabella's.

Ha!

I saw one of these last week end. I actually moved that control.

Farley has nothing to worry about .

There is some discussion of these at :
http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/6mmbr .

I don't think that "Benchrest shooters" was quite the market that they had in mind when they designed and set the manufacteuring specfications for this rest.

Well, I don't know about their market target, but I bought one for $179 from Midway, and it works pretty good. I'm a Hunter shooter and it will travel across the complete Hunter target. While it's not as smooth as the Farley, it does the job fine. The bag supplied for benchrest (yes they do supply one) could be better, but it's adequate.

Not everyone needs a Lexus....;)

I bought one of them and sent it back the day after I tried it out. It is not worth the shipping cost as far as I'm concerned. It is JUNK. JMHO John

Get the Firestones off that Explorer!:D

I've slept in the back of that thing at BR matches from AZ to OH. When I hit 200K on it, I'm thinking of some sort of grand send off for the old girl. Perhaps I'll contact Barrett about trading some .50 cal training at the Whittington Center in exchange for allowing them to drag it out to the 1000 yard line and we'll blow it up for the class final. How about it Bryan, are you in?

Hey, Scotty

Remember "Hacksaw Reynolds"? How bout a stripe top to bottom and see how many shots it takes to separate front from back!
Actually, 200K ain't bad.....My Boss has 3 vehicles between 260 and 380K, and a year old Cadillac with 50+ on it!
Can you say "we don't stay home much"?

Having actually tried to use one, you would be much better served with a Farley. The extra money spent is worth it.In fact if well kept, a Farley might actually appreciate. If one simply wants to play around with a rifle on top of a bench these things will suffice. If you are shooting in competition there are better choices. Bottom line: Buy the best and cry once. Cheap is forever.

I have a whole bunch of JUNK I have bought over the years and I think have finally learned that what Mike says is all too true. Junk=Junk.

Sure is interesting....

Some of the comments here are sure interesting from some who admit they've never seen one in person, much less tried one. Mine performed fine for me in my last match and I'm keep'n it.

Rests, bags, and powder measures are still pretty subjective items in this game; but one thing's for sure...not one of them will put you in the winners circle if you can't drive the rifle.;)

All the best,

I purchased mine from midway for $179, havn't tryed it yet but it looks like it will serve the purpose for me

I had the full unit the front and rear.

My take on it as a newbie to F class was it couldn't handle a 17 lb Rifle.

If they were to make a larger heavier version that's the one to purchase As it sits now it's no 1000 yard rest.

My 2 Cents

I was going to buy one of the Caldwell coax rests back in February when they were originally going to be available at Midway. They kept pushing delivery back by weeks and months so I gave up on them.
My buddies and I made a group buy and saved a little on the big Farley rest and I have been really happy with it so far. I'm a machinist and I don't think you can get that kind of smooth action and rigidity for anywhere near $200.00. After using the Farley for a few months now I don't think I would spend the money on the Caldwell coax if I needed another rest.
