bulging cases.

The barrel is smaller diameter than the action needs. There is a larger diameter step-up to chamber but the smith must have used most of it so that the only option is now the smaller dia. barrel which is too small. Apparantly the smith will not/does not know how to use a bushing to use a 3/4" tenon.

wrong. he knows. the simple fact is i don't like the ideal myself. it is one more piece that you have to add to the rifle. i like the ideal of less pieces. according to allen hall the .900 barrel will work just fine. he said that the action would work with a smaller dia. barrel but i didn't write the numbers down he gave me.

again it is not the smith's fualt. he told me the shank was very short. it's not dans fualt in anyway either. i talked to dan last night and he measured and sent us the longest shanked hart barrel he had at the time. it all boils down to the fact i told him to use it. if any blame is to be laid on anybodies shoulders it is mine. my shoulders are brod enough and my back is strong enough to carry the blame. i truely believe in placing blame where it belongs and the simple truth is i and i alone am to blame.

i have a smith that i trust and believe hole heartly in. i have seen his work. it has wore my butt out in every match i shot in this year. i can not say a bad word about him or dan killough. each have done nothing except to be very professional everytime i have talked to them.

the simple fact is i made a mistake. i made a phone call to allen hall and he told me how to correct the mistake. now i just have to call my smith and have him call allen hall and then he will know what to do. the best part is if somebody ever takes my smith this older hall action again he will have first hand knowledge of what to do next time.

i have to say this again gentlemen. it is not my smith's fualt. the fualt lays squarely on my shoulders and I WILL NOT EVER TRY TO PASS IT OFF ON ANYBODY ELSE.

nobody,
It'll work fine once he gets the barrel on. Good luck with it, hope she's a barn burner for you! Some of 'em are. My Hall is a serial # in the 30's and has always worked well and shot well. It's a sporter actioned Hall. She's been a good one.

kent,
do you have a cone breach(i like the cone breach alot myself. easier to keep clean) or regular breach with ejector slots cut in your rifle? i do remember when i pulled the old barrel out of the action that the bottum of the barrel had alot of wax down on it because i couldn't reach it. i guess that is why the loading ramp is removable maybe. i never put much mind to it before. can you see the bottum shoulder plainly if you remove the loading ramp?

it's 4:45 a.m. here now and i've had this rifle on my mind all night!! maybe i can go to sleep now and hopefully you'll reply in the morning.

mr
I don't have a coned breech on any of my rifles. I cut extractor slots in mine because that's what I prefer. I think it just makes a better barreling job,but it take a little longer and has to be done right, again personal preference. I clean my rifles after every match and never have had a problem like some seem to have with extractor slots. I use a Q-tip and just pull the cotton off the end so it fits into the slot. enough cotton remains so it will clean any wax out of the slot.

i made the phone call this morning. the problem will be solved by the time work gives me the chance to go pay him and pick it up. thanks to you guys and allen hall for telling me how to resolve this problem.

i can't wait to be shooting this rifle now. i also found out my new suhl stock will be coming in next month as well. man things are finally falling into place for me!!!!
