bolt rubbing on my new stiller action

I asked a question about bolt lube in a forum above. I mentioned that i had some rubbing on my bolt body from working the bolt up and down. One fella said that my lug isn't touching the properly. I installed a rifle basics trigger in the action when i got it and it feels like the bolt is stiff. Is there any connection here? Do i have a problem, and if so how do i fix the problem. The action is a stiller predator and the bolt is spiral fluted. The rubbing marks are on the tops of the fluting. Please help as i do not want to ruin this action. Thanks Lee

ok, i just went down to look at the rifle and when i removed the bolt i could see that the left side lug wasnt making contact on the face of the lug. I swapped out triggers and re greased the lug faces and i can now see that the lugs are making contact. How can there be problems from one trigger to the next? I paid a lot of money for that trigger and the cheaper shilen trigger seems to be a better choice. Does any of this make since? Can a trigger cause all these issues i was having? How? can the trigger be fixed? please help me understand all this. Thanks Lee

Probably better off just using the Shilen trigger until you can have someone, with alot of experience, look at the Rifle Basics situation in person to see if something is incorrectly positioned; too high most likely.

Something like this is not to condusive to problem solving over the internet, compared to an on-hand inspection and diagnosis............Don

Thanks don, i would have to agree. I just freaked out thinking something might be wrong with my new action. The trigger i can live with, but not my action!!! Thanks Lee

What part of the bolt/action/trigger are you calling the lugs? If you are talking about the bolt lugs, you can't see them with the bolt closed.

First thing I'd do is talk to Jerry Stiller. I doubt if his bolt and action is the problem.

of course you cant see the front of the bolt lugs when the action is closed. I placed grease on the front of thre lugs then closed the bolt. Upon opening the bolt you could see where only one side of the lug had smeared grease, the other side was untouched. Lee

shouldn't the lugs be bearing on the rear instead of the front? Did I read it correctly when you said you placed grease on the front of the lugs?

Most will use dycum, I prefer keroseen smoked lugs which displays the slightest metal to metal contact without possibility of a smear misread...................Don

I guess I'm still confused. You refer to "one side of the lug". All bolts I've ever seen the lugs have 4 sides. top, bottom, front and rear. Are you talking about the lugs on the front of the bolt body or the guiding surfaces on the rear of the bolt???

Have you ever lapped lugs? Many of the problems you refer to lack the description of where you are talking about on the lugs? I would gt on the phone and ask the Man himself. Or send the whole mess to Jerry and have him fix the problem.

Any action

That has angled trigger bar and cocking piece surfaces and has any clearance at the back of the bolt will lift the top lug away from the action cam face. If you don't believe that, take your barrel off and look. Damn poor arangement in my view but then " it's the way it's always been done". :(
