Best Factory Match grade .308 ?

How much, and how it would translate to the current crop of bullets on a LR-FC target... is a good question.

When I ran the numbers on paper it appears to have 10" less wind drift @ 1000 yards (5mph crosswind) over the 175 SMK's I've been shooting IF I can push them as hard as the 175's. I tried some 185's this week and I'm seeing the right velocity without any "usual" pressure signs, haven't measured the cases as of yet to see if their stretching. Next test will be to see how well they group @ 300 yards.

185-190gr. .308 bullets

Al, This Saturday at Midland could be a good test of the 185's and 155's. It is supposed to be "windy". I will be finishing up the Dietlein 155 gr rebated boattail bullets I had loaded for the Nationals. If you have the 185's loaded and we shoot next to each other same relay we could both hold center and shoot in the same wind and see what happens.

Monte hit the "nail on the head" if that heavier bullet gets you that scratch 10 instead of a 9 that one point can make a big difference in where you finish at the end of the match. And in particular if the heavier bullet will save you a point when you miss a subtle wind change then the heavier bullet is worth the slightly extra felt recoil and barrel wear. One point would have moved me from #11 in the F/tr grand agg. to 7 or 8. Not turning my scope windage the wrong way for two shots may have moved me up to 5 or 6. No cure for stupidity!

See you at Midland Saturday.

Bob......

I don't have a "good" load for the 185's just yet so I'll be driving 175's. Best I could do with the heavys Sunday was 2" of horizontal and 1" of vertical (@300). Then I shot some left-overs from the Nat's into a 5/8" - 5 shot group @ 300 yards. I quit shooting after that group...

See you Saturday!
