Bench Spec's

I'm looking for specifications for the "benches" themselves for competition benchrest shooting.

Sorry if this is a stupid request, but I've had a poke through the rules of the various NGB's on this site and found it difficult to see details on benches. Mostly they seem to say something like "...a solidly constructed bench for someone of average height".

Can anyone give me or point me to details for the dimensions and structure for a bench that would be adequate and legal for competition?

Also, where exactly is the firing line in benchrest shooting? E.g. the front of the bench, or is there a line on the bench, or is there a footfall line on the floor?

TIA,

Sandy.

Take a look at this article by Bill Wynne(Concho Bill), and then search for Concho Bill and PM him. He can probably help you with the actual dimensions.

We built our benches like the last picture in the article. It is made of 4x4 square tubing with a concrete top. The top is 32" high and 37" wide. I can not remeber the length of the top.

"Also, where exactly is the firing line in benchrest shooting? E.g. the front of the bench, or is there a line on the bench, or is there a footfall line on the floor?"

We measure the distance to the targets from the forward edge of the slab that the benches sit on which is just slightly forward of the bench.

Hope this helps,

Dan, Just seen the pictures of your setup on the website - very impressive - hope you are going to be doing some shooting their in November (and be able to loan me a rifle) - Brian

We do not currently have a match scheduled for November, but we might be able to change that. You can certainly come and shoot one of my rifles.

Might be able to get out late October, I'll keep in touch. Thanks for the offer of a rifle - saves a lot of hassle - Brian
