Bearing surface comparator

I’m looking at purchasing a bearing surface comparator. After doing a search of the threads it looks like the Tubbs model seems to be the preferred unit. Any additional input before making a purchase would be very helpful
Thanks!

Check out Bob Green's

The one Bob makes is a lot faster to use and less cumbersome. Regardless which one you buy, buy the best dial indicator you can afford for it. The one that comes with the Tbbb unit is junk and will drive ya nuts. I am wondeing if perhaps a digital indicator may be best for this application?

Thanks for the replies

The responses are appreciated. I’ll call Bob Green on Monday and also look into a quality dial indicator.

Thanks

I will add him to the list, Lynn. Which one are you using, if any?

I'm using a pair of caliper mounted comparators for bearing surface measuring.I take one off to measure ogive to base and the other off to measure the boattail.I measure them all with no variation into small groups and fire them into the same group of 5 or 10 shots.
If your shooting a Dasher try some custom bullets by Clay Spencer as they are very easy to measure up.

Thanks, Lynn. I am shooting a Dasher so I’ll look into the Spencer bullets. They are less than 3 hours south of me so I may try to stop by there on my next trip to shoot in Butner. I also have some BIB’s to test out over the winter.

Buy the Davidson....

double ended unit that clamps to your dial micrometer....VERY repeatable. You need the cartridge base (6PPC ?) and ogive end. I'm sure Sinclair still sells this one. By far the best. IMHO.

Sinclair still markets the Davidson; they are called "seating depth checkers" . Nose and base units in same caliber puts desired OAL right on.

To measure bearing surfaces, I put two nose units on the caliper and measure, sorting out similar lengths and load those bullets. You cannot do this with base and nose unit.

Sinclair Bullet Sorting Stand w/dial indicator

A new item which is easier and faster to use than a caliper with Davidson seating depth checkers. Use with a "Sinclair Bullet Checker Stand Comparator" (new item) or a Sinclair hex comparator.
