I know that this has been posted before but I can't find it

Anyone know the approximate BC of Randy's original 112 and 118 30's?

I'm thinking about flinging some to 600yds in a match and need to figure my comeups. I know that the BC is "low" but we get some good conditions out here and these BadBoys sure do like to crowd into the same hole  They just make my best VLD loads look silly at 100-200yds. You just shoot at the same hole and the hole just changes color. I think they go to sleep when you load 'em and never wake up......

thanks

Al:

The BIB 7 ogive 112's (.925 jacket) are .30 and the 118's (1.00 jacket) are .32. The BIB 10 ogive 118's (1.00 jacket) are .35.

Randy has a new web site up and running with a lot of good info there on all his excellent bullets. The link here on BRC takes you to his old web site....not sure why it doesn't direct you to the new one.

Anyhooooo..here's the link. -Al

Al,

I believe somebody won a 600 yard match at St. Louis a few years ago with a .30 BR, but it isn't ideal.

What are you going to shoot? One thing people don't seem to know is that Randy makes other weights, on other jacket lengths. If it is something really out of the ordinary, the wait time might be up there, but maybe not, too.

The 118-10 is made on the same die as the 187 a few of us use for long-range. Parenthetically, I'm surprised more don't use this bullet. Jeff Rogers (Australia) has set records with it, Joel Pendergraft has set Hawks Ridge records with it -- I *think* he has the most points of any Hawks Ridge shooter (i.e., counting only matches at HR), Tooley has a bunch of top 5s in both the 600 & 1,000 Nationals, I have a bunch of National top-10s (all I'm good for), Charles Bailey uses it now, etc.

But back on topic -- Randy makes a 150-something also on this die, and a bunch between 118 and 155 on, I believe, different dies. Might be worth your while to call him & see if what he's got matches what you got. Who knows, he might even talk you into a .25.

Charles,

I'm pushing them with my interpretation of the "30X47L", built from the 6.5X47 case.

These are far and away the best and easiest to make cases I've worked with and so far the results are more than promising..... I've only played around in the 3000-3100fps tuning window and it shoots like a 30BR. I ran it up to 3300 before I ran out of daylight last time and tomorrow I'm going to find out if the next plateau is a wide and deep and fluffy as the 3000-3100 one. I might end up shooting it in the 30BR velocity slot anyway. I'm not at all velocity conscious, I just set out to make the ultimate HBR round and I think I've succeeded. As long as it "shoots like a 30BR" and yet is Hunter legal I've accomplished my goal. This is a HBR rifle which is finished except for the stock so I've been testing it in another heavy ungainly stock and the thing is just drilling hole. It's a loose-twist, I'm currently shooting a 17twist Hart and have a Krieger 18" fitted to it also.

I'm building another rifle, a heavy, around the 187's. A 300WSM. I've got a 32" PacNor tube in hand, reamer etc....... I'm just waiting on BAT. And working on the metal stock.

ANYways, I've only got one 17lb gun currently cobbled together for this 600yd game, it's a "6X47L". It gets hot running straight thru..... bottom line is that I either need to build a water cooler for my light gun or bring another rifle along to shoot for heavy.......... I thought of just bringing this 30cal off the wall and in case we get a trigger pull. It shoots "like a PPC" only better..... at least it bucks wind a little better. I'm not currently shooting the 600 or 1000 at my home range so I thought about using this for one relay just for kicks, see what it'll do at 600.

Not even Randy could talk me into a 25 :)

Randy's secret bullet

I've got it from a very reputable source;>) that Randy is making some of his fine BR winning 112's useing a new boattal core seating die. I predict every BR shooter or (30 x 47 Lapua) shooter will have to have these to compete. I hear they are awesome!! If he don't show them soon, I'm going to have to buy a boattal core seater for my 7 ogive 30 cal die and make my own! I know they will be killer. (Experience with my 6mm boattail die shows that any un square case is squared or improved by the process, the boattail is actually a better bullet. (no matter what the boattail design does for the bullet, besides making them slicker to load and shoot straighter. And to beat it all the are so cute! just think of Randy's little 30 cal 112 with a boattal. Sexy

By the way, I have 500 of randy's 187's for whomever needs em to take to the 600 or any other shoot. $300 will get bullets, blue boxes shipping and all

Kirk --

Is that $300 for 500 bullets? Last time I ordered 187s -- a month or so ago -- Randy's price was $405 per 1,000, plus shipping (which is significant, and you are throwing in). Well, they're your bullets & you can charge what you want, but it feels like *speculation* popping up in the bullet market.

ERRATTA Sorry guys

I had looked at an invoice for 2000 big 6mm bullets. the total was over $600..

I had price 1000, instead of the $500 i hAVE,

$200 shipping included would be more apprpriate..

sorry guys

Kirk

Kirk,

That's a fair price. We don't want Randy to get too big a head & think his bullets are worth speculating on "futures."

While I don't really need them (famous last words), if you haven't sold them by Rachel's Glenn, bring 'em on down & I'll take them. That will save you shipping, too. If you can get you money out of them before then, by all means go ahead.

I used some of them

6.5-47 Lapua cases for my 30-45.( was suppose to be a 44 but, hey !) I found that the cerbon was sagging back on the necks clear back to the shoulder. I drilled out the flash holes to .072 and the carbon went up on the neck where it belongs. We report, you decide.

Pete,

What powder? I'm shooting H322 because I've got 15lb or so left over from about '94 and it's working perfectly with the small flash hole. I've run the 112BIB's up to 3375fps today and decided to stop before I popped a primer. To get enough powder in I used a 6' drop tube on the Harrell dropping into a funnel with an 8" tube. Load is still compressed. Primers are still tight but I'm showing just a shadow of an ejector mark from the 700 bolt. No scraping nor even a shiny spot, just the outline of the ejector mark. I've used one single case for this workup, it's got 36 firings on it and looks brand new :) I did not find another node or plateau.

I dropped the load back down to 3075 and am fireforming cases as we speak, the barrel's cooling down while I grab a bit of tucker........all of my loads from 2950 to 3375 are showing just a touch of carbon on the necks which wipes off with Hoppes #9 prior to sizing.

Today is a perfect day, 75degrees with switchy winds to around 8-10mph..... the rifle is responding pefectly mapping the flags just like it should. I've decided not to try it at 600yds....... I'm getting an inch of wind already at 100yds.

It's just a PPC after all :D a great big one.

:)

Al, you need to build a .25x47 (use a good 1:10" twist tube) and try some of my new 110 Gr. BTs - be the future !;) RG

There are and will be NO BIB thirty caliber BTs . . .

Randy its good to see you making BT bullets. Are you going to try a heavy 30 caliber BT bullet any time soon?
Lynn

The BT information is only partially correct - I am not and have no intention of making thirty caliber BT bullets. I am making a few 25 caliber, 110 Gr. BT bullets -they aren't "cheap".:D RG

Randy,

I've got the 25x47 reamer, bushing set, range rod and Hart 10 twist barrel, (Plus a choice of actions to try it on).

how about a set of 25 110s? what will they set me back? I've always liked the 25's since i saw what happens to the whitetail when shot with the 257 Weatherby.. usually at the shot , their feet appear in you scope view,,they go inverted!

what would they set me back? (a set of 110s,,, BT maybe)

Kirk Ethridge

ps.

Randy, re 25s and the future.

I've got the 25x47 reamer, bushing set, range rod and Hart 10 twist barrel, (Plus a choice of actions to try it on). stock should be here in few more weeks.

ps. i never did hear about my 22 cal 52 grain order.are you still making them?would i like them in my ppc -.100? tell me the price and i'll probably order or gry to trade some 187's back if charles won't buy em from me. i most likely will not be in that big bullet game again. my 6xc or 25x47 will probably be about as big as i go..
