Krieger offered chambering in either 223 Remington or 5.56 Match. I opted for the former because my range only goes to 200 yards, and then only on select days. Otherwise, it is 100 yards. The closest longer range is 100 miles away. So, the gun is set up for short range shooting lighter flat based bullets, which do not need the looser chamber of the 5.56. Supposedly, flat based bullets are more accurate at short range than the longer boat tails. Krieger says do not shoot 5.56 NATO surplus out of this chamber...I knew that going in. Will generate too much pressure.
Just for paper shooting, but my goal was to see how accurately I could make an AR15 shoot. After this gun is done, I intend on making another in 6mmAR. See
www.6mmAR.com. And finally, I am slowly putting together an AR-10, just because I want a big boomer. This one is expensive, but since parts are very scarce (bolt and lower parts kit), I can't spend much too fast.
I do want to some bolt bench rest shooting, but got the ARs for now, because I am in California, and ARs are under heavy threat of extermination.
