2nd Lynn Gibson 250/17X 30BR
3rd Robert Rongero 250/17X 30BR

HUNTER
1st Curtis Gallaher 246/5X 30/47
2nd John Meddings 238/6X 30/47

Due to severe neck pain I had to turn the match over to Pat Callan to run it for me. He did a great job. The weather was beautiful till 1pm. At 1pm a 10 to 15mph wind came from the North and the temperature dropped at least 15 degrees...right in our face. We were grabbing jackets and froze our butts off!

In the third round, there was a tie in VFS between Gary and Lynn with a 50/4X. The targets looked identical...go figure. Everyone had a good laugh. Even Frank Wilson was amazed.

Well looks like the highly coveted "ARC Hi-Score" coffee cups for 2013 go to Gary Bristow with a 250/20X for VFS, and Curt Gallaher with a 250/14X for Hunter. Congrats guys; I'll try to get those cups done and presented by the next match on 26 Jan.

Good shoot'n to all this year.

Yes Roger, there is a Santa Clause!

Para 7 of the new 2014 NBRSA Score Rules state:

"There shall be no minimum bore diameter, with a maximum diameter of .338 inch. There shall be no minimum case capacity." So you guys can screw a 30BR barrel onto your Hunter rig and fire away.

Good shooting this year to all,

Tie Breaker

Virg,

Those are some good scores posted for VFS in ARC.

It has been awhile since I shot Hunter. I see the 2nd and 3rd place have identical scores, what is the current tie breaker rule? I just need to know so I can harass Robert next time I see him on the range....:)

the same tie breaker. Winner of the first match, then target 1 bull 1,2,3...., then if tied at 250-25x, first missed wipeout. This is referred to the Creedmore method. The ties can usually be broken w/o even looking at the targets. Only if the competitor's scores are tied at each and every match is it necessary to look at the targets to see who missed the first X or point.

Didn't run this match Nez. Had a lot of neck pain so Pat Callen ran the match for me and scored it. However the following rule applies for ties. If the score is tied for a match (example a tie in match four) one goes back to match one and compares scores until a tie is broken (one competitor's score is higher in match two...he wins). If at the end, a tie exists such as 250/25x, one then counts the "wipe outs" which is the "X" dot completely wiped out by the reticle caliber (not the bullet hole). Ha...if that ever happens here, and the wipe out rule doesn't end the tie...they both get first place money and a write up in Precision Rifleman.

Hey, when your knees give out and your tired of laying down in 95 degree heat, come-on back to bench rest.

Thank you for the responses on the tie breaker.

Creedmoor rule in high power is just the opposite, the longest distance or the last shot of the last match starts the tie breaker and move back. In the case of no clean score was shot the widest shot loses, if still tied, then the X moving back from the last shot breaks the tie.

Virg,

I am still having fun in high power I may go back shooting Palma and long range matches again. I posted on the gunsmithing section here asking for help on the reamer spec, got a lot of responses. I now have a one on order for 223 to shoot 1000 yards.

Before your time when I was running around with TJ, Frank and the others, the technology was nowhere near what it is now. One time I tried Robert's joy stick SEB front rest, what a disaster. Every time I jerked the trigger I jerked the joy stick at the same time. All I can say is like a monkey xxxxxng a football. The game is getting to complex for me. I would feel like cave man if I were to show up with my Hart rest and the leather top TJ gave me, and squeezing the bag.

Benchrest is tough, I would rather deal with the 2 minute 10 ring at 1000 yards in high power.

Hey Nez....

There's still plenty of bag squeezer's out there. I tried a joy stick rest and we didn't get along. Borrow a rifle from Robert and try it one of our VFS matches sometime.

1000yrd 223?? Oh well, I remember they said you'd never be a success in Service Rifle competition using Bench rest loading techniques. I guess you'd better turn in your "Hi Master" pin.

The last time I shot the 223 space gun at 1000 was in 97, shooting against magnums and palma rifles, I won the iron sight category. That was at our state long range championship. Those 80 VLDs hung in there and I got lucky. The match director was not going to allow me to shoot for they were afraid that the projectiles would go subsonic and be unsafe for the target pullers. He conditionally allowed me with the pit boss observing my sighters. At the awards ceremony the match director made a big deal out of it.
