Is there a separate class in 600-1000 for AR style rifles or do they simply shoot against the traditional bench guns? I have read the rules and can't find anything about a separate class.

It seems fairly obvious that you answered your own question.

No separate class for AR's in long range, they made one for short range but it had almost no participation even from the people who ask for it. They shot a couple matches when it first started but haven't seen one in a long time>

IBS has a seperate class for ARs in both Short and Long Range. There no ranges that currently offer the AR class in any Long Range matches.

I remember separate classes from school :) I was in several special classes.

I got to ride the short bus!

IBS never really had a formal AR class. The idea was tried out as an experiment for a couple of years but it did not catch on. Most clubs allow any type rifle to compete along side the IBS registered rifles but there simply has not been shown to be enough interest to warrant a registered AR class. Factory class is a similar but slightly more successful situation. IBS rules encourage clubs to host a factory class of competition however it is run under local club rules.

Dick,
IBS rule VII A) 9) states that auto-loading weapons are not allowed. Yes the range can allow them to shoot but the cannot win a match as the rule stands now. That was the reason for the experimental AR class. Unfortunately as you said it never took off. I think I was the only match director who ever had an AR class in any IBS LR matches.

Keep the magazine in and load 1 round at a time.
The only problem was keeping the brass from hitting other shooters. They make a simple net catcher that would solve that problem.
There just wasen't enough interest.
