Action choice (style) for BR shooters?

Do the experienced BR shooters, 100, 200 yd group shooters, prefer the RB/RP actions? I was told that they prefer to keep the left hand on the rear bag and feed rounds and work the bolt with the right hand. That sure seems logical to me, "steer with your left hand".
But I keep hearing about dual ports, angle ports and RB/LP being popular. I like shooting a dual port but I'm not a PPC BR shooter, just a shooter.

All references assume a right handed, right eye dominant shooter.

I think RB/LP is by far the most popular. There are national winning shooters that also swear by the RB/RP. Coming from factory class rifles I am used to RB/RP and use my left hand on the forend to keep the rifle pulled down into the bags while working the bolt. Also I have a toggle rest and the left side of the bench needs to be clear for that. What I want next is a RB/RP Drop Port.

Jay, RBLP is dominant now. And ejectors are prevalent. Moreover, bag-squeezers are a dying breed; the joystick top has taken over.

Having said that, my newer rifles are RBRP, both for the reason you mention and for the simple fact that I learned to shoot benchrest RBRP. All save one of my 1K rifles are RBRP, and my 6PPC drop-port Viper is RBRP too.

Action Preferrence

I still shoot an antiquated RB-LP non ejector, everybody says I should be shooting an ejector. Since my style of shooting doesn't lend its self to "running and gunning", there is just no need for it. The aggravation of having to to set the bench up to catch cases is a pain if it is of no benefit.
And, I like a solid bolt face. The load window I shoot in tends to push brass into what ever cut away there is for an ejector. That is one reason I canned the ejector action I used to have on my Rail Gun.
But this is just what I prefer. What works for each individule shooter is really what is best.
This whole concept of "Running and Gunning" comes from the belief that the only way to shoot Benchrest is to just bang five shots down range as fast as possible.
This does work for some shooters. It seems like it doesn't work for a whole bunch more.
I won't recommend what you should get, because what I use does not seem to be in step with the current trends. All you have to do is look at the Classifieds, where the big supply houses offer actions in stock for sale, to see that they stock 1 non ejector for every 10 ejector models.
But, I do OK.........jackie
