Action Change

I follow the results of a lot of the Benchrest shooting matches through either the internet or PS.
I have noticed that a few years past most all shooters shot guns built on Stolle Panda actions. Now most shooters are shooting Bat action guns. I do not see much difference in match results. What am I missing ? Why the big change in actions ?

It's called the advent of CAD-CAM Machining techniques, leading to mass production. Go over to any of the big supplyer sites, such as Brunos. They stock a lot of Bats.

There are probably still just as many Pandas, just more Bats, and other brands as well.

I don't remember for sure who made the statement, but I think it was L. E. Wilson. The statement was to the effect "that if I won a benchrest rifle with a wheel on the side of my rifle, the next match there would be more rifles there with wheels on the side of their rifles". If there is any sport where everyone tries to match the equipment used by the winners, it's benchrest shooting. This makes it very hard on barrel makers, action makers, stock makers, bullet makers whose products are just as good maybe even better than what the current fad is to compete in sales with the current favorites.
