just wondering why i don't see much on the 7x57 mauser or the ackley version. they both look pretty efficient. ackley was high on both, but we shoot different matches today.

Because its a European caliber and it is not so popular in the US and other countries. 7 mm does not have the projectile range of say 30 cal

Yes it is a very capable caliber and I like the 7mm 08 as a light mountain rifle a lot.

7 mm

does anyone think the 7 mm mauser or the ackley version would be competitive at 600 yds with the horn 162 or smk 175. i think i can get 2900 fps. just curious. thanks

Anthing is possible but I dont believe it would be easy to achieve.

Maybe, but I'd look at other bullets, esp. any a bit lighter. One of the problems with 7mm, esp. at 600 yards, is the shortage of custom bullets. Good cases can be had from RWS, but they can be hard to find as well.

If you want to use the 7mm case at 600 yards, a .257 Roberts or .257AI might be a better bet, esp. with Randy Robinett's 110 FB bullet. He's gong to be making a boat tail, too.

That combo should give the 6mms a run for their money.
