6mm PPC Benchrest

Has anyone had any experience with 6mm PPC Benchrest brass from Silver State Armory? What are your thoughts on this?
Will start building a BR gun for this very soon. Seems like a good way to go rather then going with a 6mm BR case.

The question that comes to my mind is, "Why bother with an unkown?" The Lapua brass is first rate so why bother with brass from a maker you've never heard of? By the way, you speak of the 6mm PPC benchrest brass in the first sentence but refer to 6mm BR in the last. Which is it?

Sounds like you are at "square one" in Benchrest. And, I assume when you say BR Gun you are talking about 100-200 yard shooting. If that is the case, then the 6PPC is the logical choice.
I know quite a few shooters who, like me, shoot in Competition on a regular basis. Every one uses the Lapua 220 Russian as the parent case for the 6PPC.
That is not to say that what you alluded to will not work. But, it is kind of difficult to explain to a total novis why it is worth the time and effort to start with the Lapua 220 Russian rather than a ready made 6PPC case.
Before you jumpinto this, ask somemore questions. Benchrest has evolved into a highly sophisticated endevour, where choosing the right equipment from the very start can be the difference in enjoyment, and toatl frustration........jackie

Opp's

Opp's--guess I goofed. What I meant for the message to read was: I've decided to go with the 6mm PPC instead of the 6mm BR. Will be used for 100 & 200 yard targets locally, plus varmints out to 400 and sometimes 500 yards. Nesika action and probably Lilja barrel. Duel purpose gun so to speak---but mainly paper punching. On the 6mmbr forum I saw an add for Silver State Armory and 6mmPPC brass. Their website is www.ssarmory.com. What I'm wondering has anyone used their brass? Are they any good?
As a retired mechanical engineer and former tool and die shop owner I am fully prepared to form and turn .220 russian brass. I have a complete machine shop in my workshop so it won't be a problem. Will do the metal work here and have a gunsmith over in Greely Hill do the stock. Still have a little research to do on neck size before I go out and get reamers.
Does anyone have suggestions for 6mm PPC neck sizes. I've seen remarks that vary by as much as .003.
Thanks for everyone's help,

Whoever wrote the ad didn't have a clue what they were about. There are 3 separate listings for PPC brass but no description of the brass or of the manufacturer.

You can't tell anything from the ad and I don't think it likely that you will end up with match ready brass. Buy a box of Lapua 220 Russian and make it yourself or buy some pre-made from an advertiser on br.com.

As long as you turn the necks properly, I don't think the size matters. I chose my neck size to be able to use carbide neck bushings. I don't like the way the tool steel and coated tool steel bushings scratch the necks.

One of very few things 99.99% of us on this board agree on is Lapua brass. Probably a greater majority than a discussion from which direction the sun rises and sets.

If you noticed it said 6PPC Benchrest brass OUT OF STOCK.
For 40 bucks you could give it a try.
BUt considering that the term 6PPC is a pretty vague description, there is a good chance that you will still need to resize and fire form that brass as well as turn the necks.
I actually shot some of the Graff 6PPC brass and I still had to turn the necks and the shoulder was about .003 shorter than my chamber was cut.
The Graff brass was a bit softer in the head than the Lapua brass so I kept the loads light. Always less than 29 grains.
