Do you know your chamber specs? Armed with that we can to tell you if off-the-shelf dies will work.

Nothing wrong with Hornady dies, but a better choice would be to send 3 fired cases to Harrell's Precision. They will send you a full length bushing die that will fit your chamber. Get a Wilson seater die for bullet seating and an arbor press . You may even be able to find a used one. BTW- you asked on another thread about centerfire and score matches in your area were mentioned. If you do choose to shoot IBS Varmint For Score matches you will be in a serious handicap. If that's what you want to shoot you will need a 30BR or 30PPC and a custom rifle to play that game. Just sayin...

Ya Rick. I talked to him last night about that on the phone. With the rifle that he bought, the only thing he can do with it is to shoot it in the factory class.

is it just because of the bullet diameter i would be handicaped?
Explained to you on the phone last night why it would be a handicap shooting score with a six in the IBS. If you were shooting in the UBR, I would say no because they use caliber specific targets.

What Jim said. Also, as I think he told you, you would have to shoot in Factory Class. You don't want to compete with Custom actions using a Savage. Nothing wrong with a Savage action, but you wouldn't be competitive. Not many people care to compete if they have no chance to even get close to the winner's circle.

NSSA skeet shooting; four gauges are shot; .410 bore, 28, 20 and 12 gauges; anyone is welcome to shoot a .410 in the 12 gauge event, or even a 28 or 20. But, guess what...everyone shoots a 12...because its the best tool for the job in that game. Geesh...the day socialism creeps into rifle shooting is the day I go back to skeet! ciao

Rick. he couldn't compete in the VFS class because that rifle that he has weights a little over 13lbs, actually 13.3 without optics. He'd never make weight unless he has somebody chamber him a aftermarket barrel that is shorter and might as well chamber it in 30Br if he is going that route. I told him shoot factory a few times and if you think you might get serious about it get a used heavy rifle in 30BR.
I hear ya. It would be more fun if everybody kicked in 10 bucks in a pot instead of getting a piece of wood. It seems that I concentrate more if coin is involved.
What is it that leads you to believe that UBR matches aren't "heads up" matches? Competition is within classes. We just make it possible for more people to compete. At a typical match at Gallatin there are as many competing in Factory Class as Custom. Participation trophies.....that's pretty good. Do you do stand up too? I guess we're back to MikeinCo showing his ass again.
