Are you sure that's enough twist? nhk

i use to have a short 243 with a 13 twist and it shot 55 grain bullets great so i think it will be alright

I would prefer a no turn neck using Lapua brass. About a .271 or .272 neck.

If the 13 twist worked well for your short 55 grain bullets, it certainly will work well with slightly longer bullets. Possibly better than a slower twist.

Is this rifle for plinking/varminting or competition? If for competition I'd not go with a no-turn neck.

If strictly for competition I'd recommend a 6PPC instead of the 6BR. As to the amount of freebore, that is dependant on the bullet nose you buy. If the new double taper, about 0.030"-0.040". If for the more common 7-8 1/2 ogive noses, about 0.060"-0.080"

The 1:14 twist is common for bullets made on the 0.810-0.825 or shorter jackets. The 13:5-13.75 twist is also common use in competition.

thanks jerry for the input i plan on shooting in some local matches and some people are telling me to have .020 freebore thanks

You want the base of the bullet to be half way to two thirds of the way up the neck for maximum accuracy. Seating too deep can damage the driving surface and cause runout due to case shoulder distortion, too shallow can make the load fragile and subject to runout also, but for another reason.

Neck

If you do decide to go with a chamber that requires neck turning, go with a .269. That is what my 6BR Reamer is, and it makes turning necks a breeze.

But as has been said, unless you are building a all out Benchrest Rifle, just go with a .272-.273 no neck turn.

.060 is a good choice for a free bore, it will work with most 7-8 ogive straight shank match bullets. If you wish to shoot something like a Barts Ultra or a Bruno 00, a .035 would probably be better.......jackie
