600 yard question

I would like to also see HG go to 10 shots if you colud solve the posibility only having the posibility to only visibly count 8 or 9 visible bullet holes
(doubles).

Their has been many judgemental call and some disqualification based on only 4-on or is it 5-on, add 5 more to verify this opens another can of worms.

With very small 5 shot groups being shot in IBS600' competition by Schatz,Brady,Schronce,Hall, and others add 5 more shots to this target would you be able to see all 10 holes in the target?

Ranges with pits would have a lower risk of not missing shots since all shots are counted by target puller if they don't miscount.

Would any competitor like to be disqualified in any IBS 600' match based on judgement call?

Your right. I can see 1.5" 10 shot groups shot with a 30 cal. Wouldn't be much paper left in the middle of that.

Northwest Club, Missoula, MT,

is affiliated with the PA club. They shoot one target per class per day, 10 shots on all targets. It is a long way to Missoula from ND, OR and Seattle, WA or Boise, ID. Add high fuel prices to the long drive and only shooting 10 shots for record (no shoot-offs) and you see less shooters each year.
I've tried to get the members to consider going to IBS or NBRSA and shooting more targets per day but there is no interest. There is a contingent of very good shooters that live within 150 mi. and they are content with the PA course of fire. It costs $20 (if a member) to shoot 10 shots for record which is more than IBS or NBRSA, I think.
It was more fun when folks from Seattle, Portland, Boise, North Dakota and sometimes CA and WY also came to shoot.

Opinions vary,

Very good point Joel......!!!!!!

Never thought of that...... I have always thought 10-shots for HV at 600 would be a better format. But not now after reading your input and Dave's 1.5" scenario to it.
* Nope, it wouldn't work !!!!!
Nothing wrong with the current IBS 600 format !!!!

With the 1000 yards, I've shot all 3 sanctioned bodies and had a great times at all 3 !!!
If I was to pick, I would pick the format that shoots the most targets, and that being NBRSA.
Wish the IBS would open that element up to allow more targets to be shot at the ranges that can handle more for their regular matches. Agg still for those who can handle more and Shoot-off's for those that can't......

The IBS passed a temperary rule change so the clubs have a choice of 1, 2 or 3 target relay aggregate. The winners go on to the shoot off.

I didn't say a 10 shot Hvy gun format wouldn't work. I just agreed with Joel that 10 shots would create problems. Problems that probably could be overcome. Maybe, kinda, sorta

Lets face it we all want value. We spend money on guns, we spend money on gas, we want to shoot as much as possible while we're at a match. I think every organization is struggling with how best to cope with this problem and keep attendance up. I guess the only constant is change.

Guess I should have read the "Agenda" items, and then asked....lol

What are you going to be hunting July 12 & 13? This will be our 40 Year anniversary. I know we only shoot two targets per class but we're counting on our generous sponsors so that we'll have some really good prizes. Plus we're going to have a special 40th anniversary gun built (for light gun) to be raffled off at the end of the year and we'll be selling tickets. Plus for anyone who who is lucky enough (Tom) to break the world record for either heavy gun or light gun (the guns have to be legal PA guns) there will be $1,000.00 cash award. And, we have a silent auction and a fine meal served to all shooters. How can it get any better?
Our 600 yard match will be the same as IBS, 4 targets per class, 5 shots and we hope to be adding a factory class this year. The guys with the hunting guns can come in and have some fun and find out what a bunch of decent guys we really are. Our 600 yard matches will have payouts to the winners, just like our 1000 yard matches do. The payouts are based on the number of shooters.

I'm sorry I meant hunting in September (out west). I will absolutely be at the World Open this year.I will plan on helping you guys out with some certificates for THUNDER VALLEY for prizes for the die hard PA guys who like to shoot here. I have had lot's of support from the PA guys and I would like to return the favor. The last few years I've tried and work or lack of prevented it. This year I plan on traveling some for I have pulled some irons out of the fire. I want to start having FUN again and enjoying shooting like I used to. We all need to remember why we do this.

Thanks Joe!
Tom
