6.5X47 Lapua / Hunting Round

Did you build it with a skinny or varmint contour barrel?

Go to the factory hybrid forum and the thread on The Perfect Deer Rifle. A description is listed there on the last page. You can find photos on www.accuratereloading.com forums. Click on the gunsmithing forum and scroll down to the thread that says thanks CAS11.

Who knows if this will be "repeatable" .... while working on a match load for my 6.5 X 47 today, I loaded five Barnes 130gr TSX in front of 35.0 gr of RE 15 My 100M (that's 110yds) 5 shot group was 0.42" This is a sporter weight rifle. You can be sure, I'll be trying another batch of this load during my next trip to the range.

I don't use a chrony so don't know the velocity. I "shoot" for accuracy over velocity, but when I can get both, it's a bonus. Not many deer taken in this part of the country over 300M. Most of course are under 100M.
I am going to try some 140 Berger VLD's. They should be a bit faster than the TSX.

Has anyone tried the 6.5X47 Lapua for deer hunting?
Can't respond to the 6.5x47 lapua, but the necked down version to 6mm has accounted for two buck antelope, one doe, and a muley buck with 105 Bergers-All one-shot kills.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it!

Did very little shooting today. 42.5 grains of IMR4350 was the best load and chrono'ed 2750. I am using a #2 barrel at 22". Shooting 3/4"-1.00". Good enough for hog and deer. I'll work more on it next year after this hunting season. That means a week before the 2009 season.

Butch,

Is that with the 130 TSX bullets?

6.5X47 Lapua

What is the measured neck diameter of a loaded 6.5X47 Lapua brass that has not been necked turned?

For a hunting round I find any 6.5mm wildcat hard to justify when you have the great 260 Remington. :D

I have all the components for a 260, except the barrel. Who has one they want to unload really cheap?

OH Oh but if you handload of which I would bet 90% on this board do, the 260 is simply fantastic. Especially for a hunting round as the gentleman asked about.:D
