Hello All,
I need a little help here. I have been looking for a 40x, and have received some very helpful advice from this board. There is a saying " if you wish for an Elephant, be sure that you have a big shovel". Well, I wished for a 40x. Now, this may sound like a joke...but, I'm dead serious. What would a 45 yr old 40x NIB go for? I found one and would like to make a reasonable offer for it, but have no idea what that would be. It's not "very good" or "excellent" it's " brand new"!!!...If you were me, what would you think was a fair price?
Thanks,t.

I aint got no idea. But congrats anyway. Charlie V. Oh Check your pm

In the early 60's, wasn't the 40x the only model available?

I sure wouldnt have any idea, but like what was told to me by Dave Kiff. He said he wouldnt pay more for a remington than what you can buy a new custom action for. He was talking about a new stiller 25X. I am on the wait list and it is going to be a few months but the new action is going to be around 750 bucks. Pretty sweet!! Good luck and nice find!! Lee

40x

There is one on gunbroker.com that is unfired new in the box for $1,725. Mabey that will give you an idea.

The Depends answer is

If you want it and you are willing to pay that much for it, buy it. You are the only person you have to please. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, they aren't you. Generally, the value of anything is what a willing buyer will pay a willing seller. Me, it's about 3 times what I would pay for it but I don't want it.

What's you plan

When buying a new (different rifle), you need to decide on how you are going to use it. NIB rifles, need to stay that way to maintain or grow in value. If you are looking for something to modify ( customize ) and use on a regular basis, the forget NIB,

if you are going to shoot it why does NIB mean anything?
