30x47 chamberings

I just put a 6.5x47 Lapua in the press with a 308 win die, lubed the neck inside and jambed it through. Seated a 125 Berger and the outside seated bullet, neck thickness was .334. So would a no-turn neck chamber be ..336,.337 or.338 . I'm going to turn necks myself but people are asking and I'm not sure on the 30's. RANDY

30 x 47

I am selling a lot of these and the feedback is great! Here is the new 30 x 47 Lapua and three of my old 30 x 47 HBR prints. You can see the comparison. The Lapua brass works great with all of them.

Thanks,

Dave Kiff

I checked the files and most the reamers we are grinding for the no turn necks are .337, but I have a few customers using a .336 and getting their desired clearance. The reamers I have been grinding for the Wisconsin boys have all been .330 and .332 turn necks. I sure like the 6.5 x 47 Lapua brass for any type of wildcat from 20 caliber and up. The one to watch is the 6mm Long Dasher using 6.5 x 47 Lapua brass. It's great for long distance. Here is a copy of the print.

The 30x47 sounds appealing since I have a ton of 6.5x47 brass.

Question for everyone,,, what about the idea of just using a .308 Winchester using Lapua brass with a 17 twist barrel and shooting 112 BIB bullets? It seems you give up the small primer and flash hole, but no necking up, trimming or turning plus off the shelf dies. Besides, Lapua 308 Winchester brass is significantly less expensive than 6.5x48 brass in today's market.

Any thoughts

you guys have me drooling on my keyboard.

One word,

RECOIL!

My first Hunter gun was a full length 308 shooting 135 gr. Chism's at 3125. After a full day of 100 in the AM and 200 in the PM, it ends up being a survivor event. 112's would make it a little more paletable, but not to the extent of the shorter case. With the few cases needed to shoot a match, money for brass is not in the equation, unless you want to pre-load.

Yes as a 25. It would seem a natural, as the 25 bullet nearly fits the
6.5 x47 lapua case without modifying it. The 25 should work with a slightly lower twist, giving less torque. Cross sectional area of a 25 is slightly more
than a 6mm allowing greater loading density than the same bullet weight
in the 6mm. Going larger to the 6.5 brings out more optomum , but heavier
bullets, requiring slower powders. Not to mention that I have an overabundance of 25 bullets from a good lot of JLK's. Thinks I, it may be very
good at some 400 yd ground hog type matches I sometimes attend

on my f-open rig, I had a 30 inch 17 twist barrel done with a 308 palma chamber with .010 freebore... After speaking with BIB,, he suggested using the 125 or 134 10 cal flatbase bullets.

I have tons of 6.5x47 brass,,, but at least using the .308 W case and not changing case dims,,, I can use it in FTR class.

I will be watching the 30-47,,,might be something for use in one of my BR rifles.
