308 Obermeyer powder/load suggestions

I'm having a barrel chambered in .308 Obermeyer. Does anyone have any suggestions for powder(s) and loads? Or should I just continue with my standard of 43/45 grs. of Varget with 168 gr. SKG bullets.

Thanks

Roy

Roy,

Ballistic differences between various 308 chambers (Obermeyer, Win, Palma, Palma Bisley etc) are so slight as to be lost in differences between one lot of Varget and another or one barrel and another. The significant difference between the Obermeyer and the others is the leade which is much steeper. You may find that an adjustment to your established seating depth beneficial but a change in powder type or load wouldn't be presumed by your choice of reamer.

Hey Pete. How's the trip going?

I should have mentioned this above, I guess. I'll be shooting 168 gr. Berger VLD & Sierra MK. Also 175 grs. the same. I'll subsitute Berger hunting VLD's on occasion.

Long Bullets

Rooah,

I was under the impression that the Obermeyer chamber had zero freebore in which case long bullets would be tough to use, no?

If that's the case Pete, I'll just have to kill my gunsmith. He talked me into it. And I have about 2000 rounds of that stuff.

Actually Roy, the Obermeyer has a throat almost exactly the same as a 308 Win (.085 vs .090) but a 2'30" leade vs 1'30" for the Win. Chamber body dimensions are virtually identical and standard dies will work for both equally well.

It looks like I was misinformed regarding the Obermeyer and I am sorry I commented. I need to learn not to repeat heresay, eh?

Roy,

Put the hammer down, buddy! It was just a mistake!

Boy, that was a close one Pete! Talk about Cajun mean! Good thing we got Roy the right info in time, eh?

My gunsmith told me originally that the Obermeyer was basically a tight, no nk turn chamber. He also said the leade is .085, so I'm good to go.

Thanks guys. Good info.

Roy

Rooah to you Pete.

HEY, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE SMILIES???
