Paging Jackie Schmidt. Need some info on your 30 PPC

30ppc

What info are you looking for? There are a number of them here on the east coast?

Just the normal stuff.

Reamers, Dies, freebore, necksize, etc.

.30 Major

You might want to look at the .30 Major - its made from 6.5 Grendal which is pretty much a short neck PPC so greater capacity. Lapua makes the brass and its reputed to be excellent. Mike Ezell (the .30 Major's daddy) who participates here on this forum can fit you one up and answer questions about dies, etc.

No freebore, get the reamer from PT&G, specify what neck thickness you want. If you use the Grendle case and don't want to turn brass get .335 neck. Wilson will make the seater die for you. Or you can buy a 30 cal blank and have some one make it for you. Body and/or neck die, get a 6PPC die and punch it out to 30.

Bullets -115 grain 10X.
Powder - N120.
Primers - 205, 205M, WSR, Wolf.
Brass - 6.5 Grendel or 220 Russian (both Lapua)
Barrel - Brux (or your choice of any BR quality barrel)

If you like, I could hook you up with someone to make it all for you.

If you need more info, just let me know.

Just got back from looking at a job and saw your post.
The object of my developing my 30PPC was to build a super accurate 30 caliber for score shooting, that had a little less recoil than a 30BR, hence a tad more manageble in a 10.5 pound Rifle. Also, there are a multitude of shooters with Rifles set upfor the 6PPC bolt face, hence, you just screw on the 30 Barrel.
My reamer is on file with Dave Kiff, it features a zero freebore .332 neck, and a trim to 1.505.
I make the cases by simply fring a 220 Russian, with a 22 caliber bullet, a full charge of N133, in a 6PPC barrel that I reamed the neck portion out to .332. What comes out is a fully formed, non neck turned 30PPC case that is the correct length, and ready to turn. Of course, you could fire the cases in a 30 barrel, but I do not know how much pressure it would build. There is also the option of just necking the cases up, but be warned, they will come out quite a bit shorter.
I shoot 112 grn BIB's, behind enough N120 to make it go at least 2950. That is what you would call a full density load. We also use IMR Austrailian 4227, with great results. But BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS POWDER. You can go from just right to "primers falling out" with just a few tenths.
My Rifles are all built on 1-17 twist Kriegers.Accuracy is on par with a 30BR, in other words, at 100 yards, it is deadly for score shooting.........jackie

I have been working with a varient of the 30 PPC also, built on the 6.5 Grendel case. I call mine the 30 GR. I have a 3 reamer set that includes the chambering reamer, full length sizeing die reamer and a special reamer for making a straight line seating die. My design uses a 35 degree shoulder angle which helps to mitigate the effects of the shorter (.275 ) neck length. My neck diameter is .330, just like most of the 30 BRs. I have found this works well because there is not a lot of neck thickness left after expanding to 30.

How does it shoot? Every bit as good as my 30 BR. I use 112 BIBs exclusively with my Krieger 19 twist barrel at 3050 FPS. H-4189 to the center of the neck gives a perfectly full case at the ideal velocity. An interesting side feature, there is noticably less recoil than my 30 BR and I don't need the bigger bolt face.

If you have more interest or questions, call me at 989-773-2883.

Larry,

I would like to see a picture of the case. Can you upload a picture of your 30 next to a 6PPC?

Adrian
