.30 BR improved?

I've heard of some strange things... but a wild cat/wolf pup!

Is neck tension more or less critical with the WolfPup than with the standard 30BR?

30 br improved

Al that's a great post.
I did do some fooling around years ago with the 308 1.5 case . Barns cartridges of the world had a small write up on this. they also mentioned the 308 x1 3/4 . i opted for a 308 in the middle at 40mm. The article also talked about it being a good benchrest cartridge.
i played with it a while with the sierra 110gr bullets. some days it would
shoot other days not. I switched to a slower powder H335 and had better results with the longer case. The imr 4198 just wasn't doing it well.
{sorry for the first post] I also was playing with a 6 improved.
going brain dead at times. gerry

Tony, neck tension seems to be no different than any other conventional neck length case. One of the things we've found out after working with case over the past two seasons (3 seperate rifles with 5 different barrels) is that we underestimate the outward radial tension of 'standard' length case necks after being sized. In other words, the effective neck tension 'seen' by the bullet is different with a long neck and a short neck that have been sized the same.

On all our WolfPup chambers, best accuracy has been with 38.0-ish of H4198 Extreme. We could go to around 41.0 before rattling the primer pockets loose....the bolts never get sticky...the primers just fall out once you get to 41.0 or maybe a little bit above that. ;) On this latest barrel, I had Stan shorten the throat length so that the base of the bullet is another .060 down in the case to take up some of the air space. With the base of the bullet .210 from the end of the neck(Dakota 117gr./8 ogive/1.00" jacket), the base of the bullet sits about .020-.030 above a 38.0 charge weight.

But all of that is to get a min. capacity case for the HBR guns.

That a 30 Dasher reamer is heading this way from the wilds of Oreee-gon and that multiple barrels twisted 1:17 and 1:18 are also on hand might not be a coincidence with regards to my HV gun, though. ;) -Al
